This scene is not in the original short story, although it's derived from some dialog that happens later on, nor does McCoy change into hunting clothes for his little hunting expedition with Spock nor does he carry antique firearms with him for the hunt.  I did all of this so I could play this particular scene for laughs (wink).  No offense meant, hopefully none taken.

FYI McCoy is wearing Leet's original outfit from CounterStrike: Source, save that I replaced the finger gloved hands with normal ones.  It was close enough to what I needed and yet not too close.  I didn't want to use a contemporary hunting outfit.  Hopefully it suggests 23rd century hunting clothes.  As for the silver neck chain, don't forget that McCoy was wearing a gold chain with a big pendant along with his civilian jumpsuit and beard when he returned to the Enterprise during TMP.  That's how you can hand-wave away wearing the silver neck chain with his hunting clothes.  Maybe it's something he wore for good luck on a hunt?

obsolete equipment ... antiquated weaponry ... - McCoy's hunting outfit, backpack full of gear and various supplies, additional gear on his belt, and of course his two weapons:  an old-fashioned 30-06 hunting rifle with scope and a large caliber revolver on his right hip.  He'd be familiar with them, since as he said earlier his family back in Georgia has passed down a hunting tradition across generations, and he either borrowed them from Sulu (who has an "antique" weapons collection per TOS "Shore Leave") or got local equivalents.  He also knew how to handle an old fashioned revolver too, per TOS "Spectre of the Gun."  A little McCoy trivia here for you:  the late DeForest Kelley, who played McCoy on TOS, had a supporting tole playing Morgan Earp in the classic 1957 Western feature film Gunfight at the O.K. Corral prior to signing on with TOS.  That's gun credentials enough for me!  XD

FYI Earth felines can't see the color orange, nor can many game animals.  That's why it's used as a hunter safety color in many places, including good ol' Ghaw-gah (chuckle).  However, things can be different on other worlds, and McCoy's apparently forgotten that in his eagerness to play his chosen part in this little adventure.  That's why Spock has to remind him as only Spock can.

You know, McCoy probably figured they were hunting scissorbuck or the like, which per the original short story seem to be the Rhinegelt analog of a deer or gazelle.  He never counted on winding up on a tiger hunt (laugh).  To adjust that famous line from the movie Jaws appropriately, "You're going to need a bigger gun."  And why is Spock going after an owltiger with his bare hands?  Is he nuts or what?  Stay tuned ....
