Why doesn't Mr. Jackson ever stay ...? - I told you AAP CEO Ken Jackson would get mentioned again in this episode before the end!
In some cut dialogue from this scene Matt would have joked that Mr. Jackson would have been better off trying to snag Brandy than chasing young starlets, to which his wife Nancy would have responded, "It wouldn't have worked. Mom's always said she'll never remarry or even date again unless she finds a man as wonderful as Dad was. Right, Mom?" to which Brandy would have agreed. This echos the promise Brandy made at the grave of her late husband back near the end of "Love Eternal," the final episode of the original Autumn Spring series. Nancy then would have explained "That's why he's probably got a little blond bimbo waiting for him ..." and the rest of the scene as shown above would have gone on from there. There was also a cut reference in an early draft to Brandy's twin sister Terri possibly hooking up with Mr. Jackson, to which Brandy would have smiled and asked them how many husbands has their Aunt Terri been through over the years, because Brandy herself has lost count. Those bits I'll probably rework and/or restore in some form if I do a future novelization, but I had to cut them given how tightly "Prelude" is scripted. I drafted far more material than I'm going to be able to use! XD Oh, well. Like I said before, I see if I can recycle some of it later on or in later ToAS episodes.
This is Nancy talkin' - For those of you just tuning in, this is Nancy's take on a famous and oft-used line from the original Autumn Spring that was one of the main catchphrases of Mabel "Mama" Nelson, Larry and Brandy's neighbor across they way at the Richland Townhomes and one of the most beloved characters from that series. Brandy turned the tables and used it on her when she was helping out with Larry and Brandy's housewarming party, not long after they were married and had bought their home (S3 E06, "Moving In," p.19). It's now Nancy's turn to turn the tables and use this on her own mom. Now you know why Brandy is laughing in the last panel.
