Matt, get your phone out and start recording. - Modern cell phones are wonderful devices, aren't they? There's all sorts of other and older standalone devices they can double for with the right app(lication program). Like a voice recorder, for instance, with the length of recording limited only by available memory ... and modern cell phones typically have lots of free memory for audio-only recording.

BTW this is based on a real event in my own life. Before my paternal grandfather passed away many decades ago, he spend the last year or so with my father and our family (his youngest son). Dad and Mom and I would have long talks with him, and it wasn't long before Dad got the great idea of recording those talks. My late paternal grandfather used to work as a journeyman blacksmith in the 1920s though the 1940s, and he was one of the smiths employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Great Depression in all sorts of public works projects in our area. He also had a lot of other stories to tell from those interesting times here in the States, and Dad recorded all of them. He hasn't yet decided what to do with those tapes, but I know some student or archivist of those times would probably find them very interesting. In ToAS, Nancy is recording all of the stories that her mother Brandy tells about her younger days and her courtship with and later marriage to her father Larry for the same reason: she wants to save them so they'll never be lost.

Once upon a time ... - The classic fairy tale opening, of course. Brandy is using it to keep her grandkids entertained, but of course we the audience are entertained too -- or will be soon, after the intermission break.
