Description
This was done for a 3DFC Megaman challenge, it's one of the bosses before meeting Dr.Wily in Megaman 1. I was pretty happy with how the render turned out, so I feel it's worth too much to simply be a scrapRelated content

Thanks! You'll get around to it soon enough, just needs time and effort. Looking at a couple of the deviations in your gallery, I think you've got potential

Thanks
I know he's supposed to be yellow, I just preferred the green color scheme. Nothing wrong with a little artistic liberty is there?

I made it in XSI, using it's render tree. I basically have two materials: one is simply a phong material with transparency and reflection, the other is a three-color gradient setup via an Incidence node, where the color of the surface is set to the color range from the gradient, based on the angle of incidence. Here's a visual example:
Unlinked material images
The one on the right (which was originally the final render) looks rather bland doesn't it? That's why I had to fuse the two together... Y'know how you can change the color of the Diffuse part of a Phong material? Well, in the render tree I plugged the gradient material in to the Diffuse values, and with some alpha blending it produced that artificial shading.
Thanks for checking this out

Yup, you got it. I went with a green look though, simply out of personal preference.

Thanks I've got another robot project in the works (I told Viki about it a while back), I think you'll like that render too.

Hey thanks t-man I was surprised the material came out like it did, I simply used a render tree trick for the eye, saw how well it worked, and tried it on the body. Sadly the highlights are artificial; they're not being driven by lights, but rather a gradient setup that is changed based on the angle of incidence.

Awesome, Dion. It's about time you made something again! I like that shiney green jelly. What program did you make and render this in?
Go Megaman!

I was happy that I made anything too, even if it was a simple character I forgot to mention that it was completely made in XSI. I really don't use Anim8or much at all anymor, after XSI it's so difficult to go back!
Thanks a lot
