Description
This here is the tank that will be featured in the final render with my War Fish . I started this tank last October but never added the final touches until now. This model is based on a Renault FT-17 M1917 military tank.I understand that it's not entirely accurate, that's due to the poor refs I used at the time and because of that, some of the mechanical pieces were guess-work. However, pending strong suggestions, I don't intend to change anything else on the model as I am personally satisfied with the end result.
Modeled and rendered in XSI. Next up: the final piece!

gotta love that duel tone shaded detail,
I can tell from experience, that this would have been hell to model, especially the non-Ctrl pasted parts that would probably take hours to fit together , I assume there was boolaens involved?

No booleans. I'm not fond of how they tend to screw up the topology of a mesh. And you're right, some aspects of this tank were definitely a pain in the butt... Things like the tank treads and making all the little rivets were tedious But I'm happy I did it, it was definitely a great learning experience! Thanks for the comment.
P.S. Nice signature

well, the topology thing can be bypassed if the program you're using can remap meshes, My models nowadays are almost entirely made using boolaens.

Interesting I'm using XSI 5.1, which doesn't have any retopology tools. I'll keep that in mind for the future though.

I think it looks pretty awesome myself. Are you planing on texturing it? Can't wait to see that.
Great work!!

Thanks, I think it looks pretty cool too I'm not sure about any UV textures but I do have some neat looking materials on it for the final piece. Hopefully to come soon

very nice, that would look really cool with a wire frame blend... the wire frame of that would be nice and complex and look really cool

Blending this with the wireframe would be a pain in the arse too The wire isn't so much complex, just fairly dense. I did a wireframe transition on my PS2 also, should think about doing it with another model soon.

good job on those rivets man. how does it feel not having to set up a GI dome? looking forward to seeing everything put together.

It's a relief not having to use light generators, or manually setting up a fake GI setup. Although there's really no GI in the scene, per se. The material for the tank is a simple Phong material, but using the rendertree I have it set up that the diffuse part is actually an Ambient Occlusion node. Combined with a three-point light setup and Final Gathering, it really illuminates the details on models well.

Thanks. Gonna be a fair bit before I get the final render going though.
