Description
This started as a commission from my cousin, who happens to play the violin. He had the idea of a violin with a heart and wanted me to make an illustration of it so he could put it on a shirt for personal use. The problem was that I couldn't draw a stick figure even if my life depended on it. I suggested a photo-manipulation instead. He agreed, and there never was a shirt. At the time of making this I had bought and was listening to King Diamond's The Puppet Master, which tells the story of a puppeteer who makes his puppets out of real people, the process being a rather brutal and gory one. I believe that, in a way, that influenced this image a lot.
My cousin provided a lot of violin pictures and I selected this one. The heart was from a public domain medical archive that I'm afraid is no longer online. Textures may be from here, devart, so if you see anything that looks familiar, let me know so I can give proper credit to its stock-makers.

I like it, no matter the gore, I think its pretty darn cool. I like to think that a musicians instrument is the life blood of that person. This is an excellent symbol of that for me.

Just wondering, but have you seen the movie May?
It's about this girl who creates the ideal friend by using different body parts of people she knows... your description about the Puppet Master kind of reminded me of it.
This is amazing, truly.

I can say that I have never seen anything quite like this (I saw it as a DD)...
Awesome work, the concept is a bit gory, but interesting nonetheless....I unfortunately have 0 musical talent but as an artist I can understand the concept.....
I leave you with a thought....
Artist tools with the same concept....

It's an interesting concept.... having played the violin for awhile, you'd think I feel something with this peice... I don't know... Something about it just doesn't make a connection with me. It could be the strange objects holding the heart in place, or how you can't see the strings continue the whole way down. I dunno. *shrugs* It could just be me.
One the other hand, it really is a very outstanding peice. I do believe that musicians put their heart into their music (I know I do), but I've never seen it taken quite so literally! This is the first string related piece I've seen on DA, so it's going in my favorites. I have a soft spot for string intruments, no matter how they look.
Keep up the good work! ^^

I think that the 'connection' is the most subjective thing when it comes to the relationship between a work and it's audience. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Is the artist to blame for not creating a special link? No. Is the viewer to blame for not getting something out of the piece? No. It's something that either happens, or doesn't. Like how some people are attracted to some music while others aren't. So it's all ok.
The strings are there, tho. Well, under the heart, which makes it difficult to be played. But hey, who said this was supposed to be a 100% accurate piece of realism? It's an abstract concept turned visual, not an actual design for an instrument

Well, whatever it is, you've certainly done a good job! I wasn't trying to say I didn't like it, I just didn't feel the same way that others seemed to have been feeling when they saw this. Like I said, you've done an awesome job. Very nice. ^^

They're... uh... I don't know what they're called, but luthiers (the people who makes/repairs instruments) use those things to hold or put instruments together; either to shape them a bit or just to hold them as they work on another area.

Disintegration,
As a violin player I can truly appreciate this peice. I was sort of shocked to see this peice as it seems very gory and at the same time beautiful. I love how you took the image of a heart and placed it with the violin making the violin seem alive. I applaud you on your art you are very creative and talented. May your creativity be blessed further in your life.

i have a question you painted on the violin what type of paint did you use, because I have been commissed to paint a banjo and i have no idea what paint I should use. By the way your peice is outstanding i love the representation that it has it is very remarkable

En este caso en particular, el corazon no solo es el alma de la musica y principal expresor de emocion... tambien funciona como metronomo
