Description
This started as a commission from my cousin, who happens to play the violin. He had the idea of a violin with a heart and wanted me to make an illustration of it so he could put it on a shirt for personal use. The problem was that I couldn't draw a stick figure even if my life depended on it. I suggested a photo-manipulation instead. He agreed, and there never was a shirt. At the time of making this I had bought and was listening to King Diamond's The Puppet Master, which tells the story of a puppeteer who makes his puppets out of real people, the process being a rather brutal and gory one. I believe that, in a way, that influenced this image a lot.
My cousin provided a lot of violin pictures and I selected this one. The heart was from a public domain medical archive that I'm afraid is no longer online. Textures may be from here, devart, so if you see anything that looks familiar, let me know so I can give proper credit to its stock-makers.

really kool take on both the artform and somewhat portrayal of dedication some have for playing violin or any instrument really. Oh, and I loved the Puppet Master album, the bonus DVD where King tells the story is even more disturbing. fav

This is very powerful. I can't even describe exactly how I feel about it. I'm a little shocked to see this, but at the same time, I greatly appreciate it. People need to throw themselves completely into art, give up everything to become part of something they create. You do this well.
Why the title "Disintegration"? This confuses me a bit.
I also enjoy how everything is breaking out of the violin. It reminds me of man's eternal struggle to break free from the restraints of everyday life to express himself in his truest form.
On a side note, this reminds me of the Red Violin, in a sense. Perhaps you've seen it.

being a violinist myself this is absolutely heartfelt. if i died, i could see myself telling someone to put my heart into my instrument. i love my violin more than life... its all i live for. this would be awesome for my symphony's shirts but i dont think the "older" people would be up for it.^_^
during my last concert, i cried tears of passion for the first time. while i was playing my instrument(and crying) i could see the audience( closest to the front) start to feel what i felt. this may be why i have never related to any other violin oriented works like i have to this one.
i may be only 16 but i know what i feel is real...this is an unexplainable feeling...love, passion, and in my case obsession. 6 hrs of practice every day and i never get tired of hearing its melodic harmonies in my ear.i must be boring you so i'll stop here.
Wonderful job none the less.keep up the awesome work.
please check out my gallery.

I don't think it's possible to put a real heart on a violin. Unless you somehow managed to become a mummy. A mummified heart would be easier to manage, but not really practical or as cool looking

holy sh.... this is an awesome picture, I've seen alot of violin manipulations, but by far this is the best i've seen so far, it's speaks so truely (me being a musician) and i would say the detail and balance is amazing, as well with the mood and the message speaks so loudly, nice job, keep it up!

I really love this. And oddly, because I hate gory things. But I've played the violin for several years, and hadn't made as much time for it recently, but this really makes me want to feel that again; putting my heart into again.
Awesome.

hehe... such a great concept... it's like the music coming from that violin is made out with parts of the musician heart... I mean... I have musicians in my family, and I can tell... when you like what you do, you put your heart in it... but the music is one of the things everyone can apreciate, and when a musician put everything of him/her in his/her preformance, everybodie just really enjoy the moment...
Congrat's on the DD... great work..

I think it would have come out a little better if you didn't have all those hooks holding the heart into place and instead just put it under the strings. This looks more like a forced mutation rather than someone's heart being put into their violin, you know?

Have you ever seen the movie "the Red Violin". It's not a horror movie, but the first thing I thought is that this reminds me in some remote and yet vivid way of that movie, one of my favorites. I like the picture...It evokes mixed emotions.

Wow, This is beautiful! I've been a violinist my whole life. this really means alot to me.
It makes me think of my violin teacher.. an older guy, who's spent his whole life... Just for violin and music. I know he put his heart into music, and I hope I can do the same.
....and....
I'd want this on a shirt!
I mean.. it's awesome.
This is so gonna be a favorite.
I really like how you put the heart on the violin, what you used to do that.
It's very interesting.

Well, many claim instruments have a consciousness of their own... this leads to that, as well. That's definitely putting your whole heart into the music. I love your description, it is not only neat on its own (about the album), but really helps the viewer get more out of the image, which so many descriptions fail to do (particularly the ones that are merely "...").
I like that there is more than a heart shoved under the strings. You can see more of the tissue and veins in the cut-away parts, and you've added more means of holding the organ in place. Very nicely done, and I think well detailed as well!
