THE CHAINS DESTROYED ME
I'm not sure where this idea came from and it started out with me trying to do some pose practice. At some point I guess I decided I was going to take it all the way into a full piece and here we are. xD
I improvised the character and he's loosely based on a sea urchin. The impression I got while drawing this was that he was incredibly poisonous and he'd been chained to the bottom of the ocean to keep him away. Other than that, he hasn't done anything wrong, and as you can probably see, he's incredibly sour about it. I'd say he's been down there a while and he's become quite unfriendly, not that I blame him.
Edit: I was convinced by you lot to do more with him, and so I am as of now working on a short comic that tells his story and how he ended up like this. Thank you all so much for your support and giving me the confidence to make something.

Not to worry! Coincidences happen and I can see even though the two have their similarities, they have their differences too. Maybe read up on this guy so that you can branch Manta off and don't accidentally do something similar to Urchin if you're concerned about it?

I've noticed that the shackle on Rurek's wrist appears to be in different positions in different pictures which has lead me to think that the shackle is loose enough for him to twist and reposition on his wrist.
In this picture the triangle design is roughly aligned with the palm side of his arm, while the chain link (the place where the shackle attaches to the chain) is roughly aligned with the left side of his arm.
In this picture:
the triangle design is aligned with the "dorsum" or top of his arm (although it is likely that there are two sets of triangle designs on opposite sides of the shackle), while the chain link is aligned with his palm side/underside.
In this picture:
again triangle design on his dorsum/topside, while the chain link appears to be on his right side, although it could be on the bottom and there's more chain than we actually see because it's hidden under his hand.
In this picture:
we see the triangle design at roughly the 11:00 position from Urchin's perspective, and the chain link either on his palm side/underside or his right side; can't really tell because In this picture it's hidden.
And finally on this page:
the triangle design is on his left side with the chain link appearing to be on his right side.
What is it with those triangles pointing at each other? Are they just designs or do they have something to do with how the shackle was placed on Rurek?

They're just designs! Theres two of them, one with the chain links and one on the opposite side. He can twist the shackle a little bit, but it's uncomfortable to do so as it's needless to say, quite tight.Β

A week from this upcoming Thursday will be November 2nd which will make it the 2nd anniversary of this picture as well as your character Urchin. Last year you made a special picture of Urchin for the occasion.
Do you plan on doing the same this year? If so I would like a short comic of Urchin making various attempts to remove or break the shackle and/or chain with each attempt ending in failure to even so much as scratch the shackle and/or chain. But do whatever you want if you have the time and energy.

Heh, I'd almost forgot about that! I do have a picture in the works at the moment, and it will likely be done for that date! I'll also give your idea some consideration, it may not be on the day but a comic page like that would work well as a bonus piece at some point.
