These are great inspiration!  Working on new maps for my book series, and happened upon your tutorials.  Your style is similar to what I'm already drawing, so it's awesome that you shared your methodology.  Thank you.

Thanks for the tutorial, gives a good idea of how to progress on this style. I do think there should be a step or two between picture 6 and 7 though. I can follow this fine, but then 6 to 7 is kind of a big jump. You adding in more lines/cracks, and then adding in more details in the highlights. It'd just be useful to see some in between on these especially since this refining process is what makes it good. But again thanks for this tutorial and it is still a good aid in getting started.

This peaked my interest so that I started looking at some of your other tutorial map thingies. It's really good stuff, and helpful too. I've never tried doing maps from any perspective other than straight down, so I might give it a try now...

Great job DJ. Out of curiosity, how long would you say you've been designing digitally/illustratively? I only picked up a digital tablet about 3 months ago so tutorials like this are great for improving my own developing style.
