Don't know much about photography, but I love the sort of bubble-ness of it... makes the sunset look greater.
Love the composition.

I not only like too much the atmosphere created by the colors and the angle of capture, but I simply love the lil' distorted view that the 16mm give...
So spectacular...

i love this picture. the colors are gorgeous.
i miss living up there so much, and this picture has something untouristy and intimate about it that reminds me of when i did. i like the punch, if there is one or my eyes are just messed up o_o

I love this. It's a great shot. Another thing that caught me was the title - I have a friend who lives in NY and all he wants to do is escape it.

It almost has a vortex-like feeling to it.
I've only ever been to New York City once and it captures the beauty, sadness, and the reality of the city in one frame.
It's truly a beautiful picture and I've put it as one of my favorites.

I love hte framing and the colors, but I'm not exactly sure of what to make of the concept.
Does this mean New York is gated/seperated from the rest of the world? Does it mean New York is in Jail? What's everyone elses interpretation?

dude. great sky, and I love the perspective and everything. Really nice scenery, but it can become cliche if you don't do something new to make people look at it, which is exactly what you did. Props! You totally deserved the DD!
Oh, and great title.

Well, besides the sycophantic accolades, you should be awarded for the excellent poetry in the use of a hole in a fence to view the city. From one angle, the picture says NY, and perhaps the USA, is an isolated entity. Seen from another angle, the hole in the fence could tell the viewer that the isolationist wall needs to be broken, thereby bringing the dawning of a new age (via the dramatic dawn sky).
For that reason, I am making this picture a favorite, although I would, having been in your shoes at the time, have not employed such a stark fisheye look to the image. I think that would have forced one to reposition the camera. On the other hand, the sky really does look cool.

Thanks so much for your commentary of my image. Your words make the image even better!
As far as the angle, I didn't have too many options. I tried this with a 24mm lens and couldn't get enough of the fence in the frame to make an impact. There was very limited room to step back on the footpath of the Manhattan Bridge (unless of course I went on to the subway tracks). Te subways made tis shot difficult - I had to time my exposures in between passing trains that shook my tripod!

Ah, I see. I encounter similar framing issues because I tend to shoot most everything with a single non-zooming lens. Frank (fdpiech) and I spent one lunch hour at a park and I found myself climbing hills and balancing myself in odd positions to get the framing right. Of course, that's part of the fun.
