I've been messing around with balancing the effort I put into my sketches whilst not driving myself crazy, and I think this piece is an example. There's a lot of rectangular shapes going on here, what should probably be super hard lines and nice square corners.
I thought about cracking out the ruler and painstakingly measuring everything, and in that moment I saw hours pass and me still being unhappy with the result.
So, instead I used my pencils as a rough straight edge and tried to use thicker lines to hide any incongrueties between the blocks. And honestly? For the effort I put in and the final look, I'm actually pretty pleased. I think the rounded corners honestly add to the realism of the castle wall, and even my eye is drawn to the dragon in the center of the image, not judgmentally analyzing every stone in the wall.

For those following, you've probably gathered at this point that I'm a fan of drawing fearsome beasts in less than fearsome poses. Dragons are my favorite fantastical creature, and though I love a roaring, flame spitting drake, I thought it'd be fun to draw a freed dragon in-between bouts of violence. It's broken free of its shackles, and at this moment nobody is pointing anything sharp at it. What will it do?
