Description This is my Easy and Convenient Tutorial for ABSOLTUE BEGINNERS in Photoshop using mouse!!!

Me and my friendly pet Poring have created this very very simple tutorial I did for those of you who use a MOUSE to do your anime art. I used to use mouse until recently and I understand how absolutely agonizing it is to colour with a mouse. T___T
Erm...actually I'm a bit nervous about uploading this tutorial cause I'm not a pro at Photoshop myself...in fact I just learnt that Photoshop existed about 2 months ago..so yeah. TT_____TT
But I've been colouring with mouse for a fair amount of time using other programs, so don't worry ne. ^^

I actualy did this tutorial for a friend of mine who asked - but I thought why not share it with everyone else too ne? So here it is!!
Sorry if it takes long to load..the file size is so huge...and i couldnt shrink it any further without making the words too blurry to read...
The bit about erasing ... I'm not so sure...so if anyone has any better way to do it instead of eraser of magic wand...please let me know ne!! *^_^*

Erm...I'll probably move this into scraps after some time...I'm quite scared to what reactions I will get, this being my first tutorial and all...

I hope you understand it and enjoy!!!^^

Woaoh... A very pretty girl with these wonderful blue-green eyes...

I just have one question: How do you make the shadows on the skin? Do you just use the lasso and color the whole area, or you take the hairs and do some transformation to have the shape of the shadow...

For shadowing, I found no tutorial on the web (for adding a shadow of a people when you put it on a background where he is not born in)... Not easy to do...

Thanks for your so cool tutorail ...and I hope you will make another tutorials like this

dominique871 In reply to BrightDragon [2005-05-13 08:32:13 +0000 UTC]

The shadows? Yeah I just use the polygonal lasso and select the areas I want to be darker, and I choose a colour that's darker than the base colour and I just use the paint bucket and fill it!! *^___^*
its very simple. It's really good if you have at least three colours for one base - so there's like three shades of shadows - it really adds to the depth of it.

If you want a real shadow of a person, like a person standing on the ground and you can see his shadow on the ground, you can try using the Drop Shadow effect - you right click on the layer and choose Blending Properties ---> Drop Shadow and there you can play around and create some nifty shadow effects.

Did you understand all that? If you dont, just tell me I'll try and walk you through it. *^___^*

I'm glad you liked my tutorial!! Thank you!!!

:frustratred: It's the third time I try to answer you... each time before I had a problem with my webbrowser that makes me restart from the beginning...

First, I want to thank you for this so quick answer...and with so much details!!

So, you can use the polygonal lasso and put some colors... yes, I think it's better than just using the mouse and a brush and colorize like that ^_^ Thanks also to have making me discovered the "Dodge tool" and "Burn tool"... I hope that now, despite my absence of gifts in drawing, I can do something not so bad!!

Concerning the "drop shadow", I already have tried it. My objective is to create the shadow of a standing people in a beach...one these long long shadows... But with this Blending Properties, I just managed to create the kind of shadow you have if you stay in front of a wall... or a poster (and I don't want to have my model standing in front of a poster of a beach...
Maybe I misused it ..... if you think so, can you explain me how to do?

If you have any useful links or information about this subject, I will be very grateful of your help...
(since now I am in China for a long long time...and all the books about Photoshop are in chinese.....even if I can read some chinese, there is too much for me!! The conclusion of that is that I can't find any very "clear" book about PhothoshopCS )

Thanks for everything, your tutorial, your comment-answer, and so on....

hahaha..
nyaa i'm sorry about the drop shadow thing >__<"

erm maybe this method will work...what I've seen people do is use the path tool and select the outline of your character then save it as a path....and the go to paths...make it a working path...and select path...then fill selection...then change it back to a layer and just rotate or transform it until it looks like a shadow..

ok...that looks very cluttered...let me tell u step by step..

1. create a new layer and use the path tool to trace the outline
2. fill the path with black (or whatever shadow colour)
3. select the layer with the shadow and transform it to the way you want it to look
4. lock transparency (a padlock icon will appear)
5. fill with colour!

i'm not sure if its the right way to do cuz i've only tried it once and i wasnt doing a shadow - but i think it should work for shadow. i'll try it again soon and let u know if it works.
You can try it too! *^__^*

and thank you for adding me to your watch list ne!!

Thanks thanks and thanks....

I think this way is more clean that the one I used before... but a little more complicated. But I think I can get rid of it by practising!

some people like to do cell shading with the pen tool instead - but i find the pen tool more complicated and kinda strange to use...so the lasso for me is much easier and it still does the job! ^^
