Description
Just a lil' WIPNagala, Then and Now.
I dunno, I guess I just feel a bit nostalgic, seeing how my art has changed over the past year and a half.
Which version of her do you like better?
Edit: Gaah... photoshop doc is so messy =____=;
Edit2: hehe... I just noticed. Normally Nagala goes for shoulderless tops. Either this's a rare exception, or she's gonna be shoulderless by the time I'm done XD
Edit3: Yeah.. this's why I don't normally want to submit stuff after like, 2am. I should mention --- Yeah... this would be a preview of the full(ish?) body version of the inks for my previous Portrait pieces.
Edit4: Yes, she's currently missing a hand. I need to finish that =____=;

I think it's because she looks cuter. XD She definitely looks more .. uh ... mature, on the right. But I do like both of them.

Ah, yeah. That's my mistake. I compared a pic that was intended to be cute with a pic that was intended to be more mellow and pretty.
I was really only looking for a comparison of if people thought my drawing ability with Nagala has improved since then.

hehehe, thanks XD
Nagala is... hm. Kind of a mutt. But like 90% of her look comes from her demon side, so for the simple answer I just say she's a demon. I could tell ya more if you want.

Doom-san In reply to Ignition44 [2009-03-15 20:34:34 +0000 UTC]
Mutt means "mixed-breed". She is of a mix of races - she's actually only 1/4th Demon, though it seems to be a dominant trait for her.
She reminds you of a snake? hehe.. well, funny you say that. She's also 1/4th Naga as well. It's not really noticable though... Her eyes are commonly mistaken for demon eyes, though they're actually closer to snake eyes. That's about all she gets from that side of the family, at least on the surface.
Reptile girls? *shrug*, maybe someday.

Oh my baddominent ae?
Well ya she does because of the eyes.Isnt A naga one of those big oversized no-leghed half-human creatures that aer usually participate in Vore?

Doom-san In reply to Ignition44 [2009-03-15 20:57:43 +0000 UTC]
A naga is a creature that appears human(oid) from the waist up, and snake from the waist down. (serpent tail instead of legs, yeah.)
Everything else is the product of fandom >___>;;
I'm not a fan of Vore, personally.

Thanks. Yeah.. everyone seems to like the old one better. Can't say I'm happy to hear that, but everyone's entitled to their opinion. (it better not just be 'cause of the boobs >___>;; That is seriously NOT why I draw.)
On the layer thing... I'm only good for like... one nerdily-long explanation of processes per day. If ya want the write-up I gave someone earlier, check here. [link]

Don't get me wrong Doom - the newer version looks great, and actually shows development, only lacks a certain charm the older one seems to have ( And trust me. It's not cause of the boobs either bro) Believe me. I do look forward to more of your newer works though

Thanks Ruku.
hehee... what, is it a lack of "cuteness"?
As a friend explained to me, this submission isn't totally a fair comparison, because I'm comparing a cuter style with a more mature style.
Granted, I want her to be both, so maybe I just have to work on finding a better middle ground. I honestly don't think I drew her that differently, but maybe the facial expression might be throwing it off, since I was aiming for more of a "mature beauty" mood. I hope I succeeded in that, at least? XD

Everything that overlaps has its own layer.
I like to draw out the whole form of things even if it doesn't show up in the image, so I can vouch that it was drawn correctly (since I'm still learning, and all. )
So for example -- her horns.
- 1 layer for the actual shape of them, (2 if I'm not comfortable with just winging it with the part where they wrap around)
- 1 layer for the groove that coils up the horns like a drill groove.
2 layers total.
Also -- You might notice those white layers with black areas that are on top of groups. (which I guess what most people are mistakening for "layer overload" ^__^;; ) Those are special layers that I use for trimming back overlapping details without actually erasing anything in the contents of the layer. It's REALLY nice ^__^ (all ya do is fill in Black where you want to hide something, and White where you want it to show. Deleted too much? Whoops -- highlight the area that was trimmed too much - fill it with white - DONE~! ^__^ )
It all probably sounds really complicated, but in reality, it makes editing a LOT less complicated for me ^__^;;
But yeah. Every "object" has its own group, and each group can have usually between 1 and 3 layers.
- Hair
- Shirt
- Sleeves
- Skirt
- stockings
- Horns
- Body stripes
- Face
- Skin
- Eyes
- Arms
- Hands ('cause hands are so complicated, they seriously deserve their own layer set T__T )
I don't deny it - it's a lot of layers. But it's a heck of a lot easier than erasing some detail I don't want and accidentally erasing something I wanted to keep ^___^;;; Surgical precision with lineart editing is annoying, so I just do things on separate layers instead, while I'm still inking.
-- So when I color something, I save a new copy of the document and merge the lineart before coloring.
... I'm such a photoshop nerd ^__^;;

^__^ Do you have any questions?
I admit, masking isn't totally the most obvious technique. It's something people more stumble upon when they're like "gosh, I wish I could do [X effect] in Photoshop! ..I think I'll google it!". Since then, it became like... my favorite technique XD
