Description
*FULL VIEW OR NO VIEW*Finally, 30+ hours and a nervous breakdown later a brand spankin' new piece is ready for submission. I actually finnished Saturday, but decided to submit after the holiday, even though most of my fans here are not American.
Before anyone asks: No I haven't seen Donnie Darko, and Yes it is on my list of movies to see.
11x14 paper, which turns out is a lot of space to fill up with a micron pen.

Thank you for the compliments. I used an 05 and an 01 pigma micron pen and a chisel tip sharpie for the solid black area.

No problem - very much deserved
Hmm. Sharpie, eh? I've heard about that around a lot. I take it it's an american brand? Any chance you could explain to me what exactly it is?

Yes, Sharpie is a brand name it is basically a marker usually black. I use the chisel tip which has an angled tip so I can do fat lines and skinny lines. Let me know if you have more questions, cheers.

Roughly the same diameter as a cigarette.

Rather than Donnie Darko, it sorta reminds me of a demented Alice in Wonderland. still damn cool though, 30+hrs? wow...

I am doing mostly black and white pen stuff right now, but I do have a bunch of color stuff on my website.

Alright, in most situations involving giant ghost-bunnies, I have to laugh. But this one has such a Beauty and the Beast feel to it that I can't help but love it. But GEEZUS, your poor pen! All the abuse it went through to cover that page XD I keep oogling at the doors in the background and the tattoos all over her. Amazing work. My cats usually spill stuff on my work before I can even get an eigth as far as you did.

I did actually spill coffee on the upper right hand corner of this piece, but with all the pen work you can't really tell.
Thanks for the compliment.

The shading and textures you've created are AMAZING. Incredibly impressive. Wow... You have some talent, that's for sure. And really know how to use this medium. Fantastic piece! The composition and concept are just wonderful.

The skill and the patience are one thing; how on Earth do you maintain the persistence of vision? How do you keep it together?
BTW, that wouldn't be the Black Rabbit of InlΓ©, would it?
The real question is: which of his locks does that key fit? Or is it for hers?

Oooh! Lovely piece!
I get jittery after about 4 hours of penwork, so even if my drawing abilities are fair, I could never do stuff like this! (No patience - hence me only doing photos now).
You've outdone yourself! Excellent job!

My goodness, I am fanatic about detail, but I don't think I could ever accomplish that without severly butchering it in the process or simply giving up. I have insane respect for someone who could accomplish this with just a pen.

Any craft or art store worth a damn should have them or you can get them online at [link]
I use the 01 and 05 size.

I did go to UVSC for a little while, but I got my degree from Provo College. Art not very popular in Utah, well mine isn't anyway. Still they haven't run me out of town with torches and pitchforks yet.

yeah, I was super surprised to see that you were from Utah, let alone Utah County. Theres not much of a broad understanding of the genres or anything. I deff love your designs though, do you ever do tattoo work?
π: 0 β©: 1
dpdagger In reply to Kayleah [2005-07-12 20:56:28 +0000 UTC]
I have a very good friend who is a tattooer, that is where I learnt how to draw flowers. My art is heavily influenced by traditional tattooing, but I don't do any actual tattooing, and I don't really have a desire to. I am perfectly happy drawing with a pen.

Wowzers. That's beautiful in every detail. It's like a blackened Alice in Wonderland for grown-ups. That might just be my warped imagination though.
I repeat: Beautiful.
They don't seem happy that she has the key.

The detail is amazing to say the least, but what really appeals to me is the feeling that this is just single moment, a quick snapshot, of a larger scheme of events. Makes you really stay with the picture.

Holy fuck..............
Sweet Jesus, I hope to one day be this good.
I do have one question though, are her chains tatts?
π: 0 β©: 1
dpdagger In reply to Yoggington [2005-07-06 20:58:23 +0000 UTC]
Yes, her chains are tattoos. I stippled them in so they look a little faded like a tattoo. If you ever get to see the actual full size piece it is easier to tell, but if I post a full size picture here someone may try to steal it. It is unfortunate that everyone is affected by the fact that there are assholes out there that will steal art.

Those little initials on the tombstone might stop that - they're well worked in. And congrats on the DD. I was only looking at this yesterday and today you get DD'd. Spooky

dpdagger In reply to Yoggington [2005-07-07 21:47:54 +0000 UTC]
Thank yous, So I shouldn't do it because it is bad luck to have my initials on a tombstone or because it blends in to well?

Yoggington In reply to dpdagger [2005-07-11 12:17:21 +0000 UTC]
Na no, i'm saying its a good idea to have them smack bang in the pic, instead of off to the side. People can't rip it then.
