"You can't beat the best."There's Cheetor. The token shotabait of the Maximals. ...at least my take is. Cheetor's always portrayed as the youngest, so I took that to the logical extreme and made him he kid. I had Beast Boy in mind when designing him, and his Universe Toy for bits of his transformation. Makes him look barefoot, which I think is a fun touch.
His helmet is also similar to the Samurai Pizza Cats. Who saw that comin'?
I figured making him the kid would provide a better contrast between Tigatron, who'll be an "adult" version of Cheetor's basic mold instead of a repaint/redeco. And, as the kid and fellow newbie, I'd pair him with Nightscream to make a Straight Man-Funny Guy duo at times. Cheetor apparently likes an amusement park called Six Lasers over Cybertron.

I just study the style and imitate it as best I can. And I always make sure they work on a toy-level, too.

I'm curious: what are Cheetor's powers? And Primal's and Rattrap's and Rhinox's?

I never tried to think about powers for them. Nightscream gets his sonic scream straight from his BM counterpart.

It did say that Cheetor has the Oracle inside him, but what else? And I know Rattrap has bombs, and Rhinox has guns. What about Optimus Primal?

Again, never really but much thought into individual powers.
As for weaponry, Cheetor gets an axe, Rattrap's tail will either form a sword or a pistol to go along with his bombs, Rhinox keeps his infamous Chain Guns o' Doom, Nightscream would probably get a spear or staff type weapon, and Primal would likely be heavily armed like the original, with twin sabers and cannons.
I figured that Primal, Rattrap, and Rhinox were soldiers, so actually get real weapons.

Cheetor is a guy. There are a good few male examples, namely Nightcrawler, Sora, and most of the kids from Ozy and Millie.
And I meant in case you start binging on the other sections, like I do.

Thanks, mate. As mentioned, I wanted Cheetor's design to absolutely reek of the "kid bot" look.
As for who's next...I've had Scorponok and Terrorsaur also suggested. I also plan on drawing the toy (and later comic) exclusive character, Stinkbomb.
