Okay, First off, I understand math. I understand it and Acknowledge it completely. but there's some parts that make no sense. Like this, algebra in life you use math 24/7. but last time it wasn't... well.... that. GEDDIT??!I havent seen one thing in algebra yet that points out something I need in life. A teacher Of mine once said,"you need it for college." Thats believable. but what about REEAAAALL LIIIIFE??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...That is all.

In all honesty, I think it would be smart to have basic math taught early or throughout, like the necessary multiplication and division (Subtraction and Addition if you yet to get that...) and stick it to the subjects we would need in daily life. I would rather like to start knowing how to do taxes NOW then I would some random crap that I don't even fully comprehend or see a need for.
It would be much more useful if those other classes you take are the only classes you learn the math you'll actually need for a career. ><
For example, I plan to go into Forensic Anthropology. If I need math -- I need to know THAT kind of math. We do math in Chemistry, but only the math we need to figure out the problems! In that way, and because I think Chemistry is useful, it's a lot easier for me to comprehend then learning something brand new one week without any purpose behind it.
I'm failing my Algebra Two(Then again my teacher is an idiot in the rude kind of way), but I'm acing Chemistry.
Go figure.

Dude I know what you mean! I took a personal finance class and was pissed that it was never taught in high school, maybe less of my friends back home wouldn't be in debt if they had this information taught to them.

It's only valuable in real life if you go into a scientific or math field. Or if you like to try figuring out crazy equations you made up for the heck of it. Or if you're trying to decide how much you want to invest and how long until said investment makes you a millionaire. I hardly use it.

academic subjects are actually to see if you can handle problems later on in the future when you're independent from your parents and such. But I don't understand how they have to do that through numbers and equations =w=

I use algebra in furniture design, clothing patterns, and when my brothers and I try to figure out how hard we're actually hitting something when it goes distance x (for just a few examples). But if you aren't into anything like that and are probably going into liberal arts or music or art without any design, you might not ever use it.

Architecture Uses algebra a lot to determine the proper construction of a building. So if you go into the construction business you'll start seeing it again. that.s not including all the other job feilds out there that normally require some form of doctorate degree. But for most people yeah never gonna use it.

I guess they do this ridiculous stuff so that you sharpen your brain up and everything else looks easy.

I got by with maths and everything, but it was just like 'What the crap is the point, miss? I won't be using it at university, and definitely not in everyday life, so WTF?" D;

Or rather, you're at a grocery store, you have $10. You want to buy eggs ($3), milk ($2) and bread(x). Tax is 5%. What is the most expensive brand of bread you can afford?
3 + 2 + x + .05(3 + 2 + x) = 10
OMG! ALGEBRA!

algebra is not that useful by itself... but you need it for the stuff that is usefull. Kind of like car tires; not that useful alone, but you can't drive a car without them.

You need algebra to do calculus, and you need basic calculus to figure out interest accumulation on debts, savings accounts, etc.

The truth is you probably won't need it for real life, you most likely will not use it unless you become some sort of rocket scientist or something and even then they have computer programs and calculators that can do a lot of the stuff for you and it won't be the same exact stuff. I think the algebra and the math they teach you in high school is more for teaching you how to think differently and to exercise your brain to be able to figure out how to solve abstract problems.
