Description Ahaha. This is... pastels and marker. A first for the gallery I guess, I haven't used them in foreverrr.
So. Scanner. That scanner I've mentioned in a less than positive light in the past? ...I think I mentioned it handles blues and greens a bit better though? Hm. Well something changed.
That scanner... I hate it. Hatehatehateit. This was one of the most frustrating scan attempts EVER. Everything just... vanished. Then one time it just scanned a black square, and... egh. I guess the point I'm trying to get across is; that was really annoying! Fuck you, scanner.
ANYWAY
This is a submission for 's challenge, in which we were to draw a summer scene using one of these palettes . A bit difficult to do traditionally, but I had a lot of fun with it. Time really flew... o_o
It's Jen, and her pet eel, enjoying the sunset.
Neither of them need to be in the water constantly to stay alive, but both are most comfortable in it. /randomfact
Also; I really love Jen! When I have trades open again I'm going to look for some people who like drawing sharkish things. n_n
Also. Weird shapes are fun.
...
I'm submitting this now because otherwise I might not ever. XD
...I need to get off the computer now.

Yes, it is. I did have to use Photoshop due to the terrible scan, but for traditional art I only use it to bring back what was lost as best I can.
Thank you very much. c:

Well I do agree with you on the "Fuck you, scanner." part of your comment. I have a scanner that does the exact same thing, except it does horrible on artwork and even worse on paperwork that I have to have on my computer....I hatehatehatehate scanners sometimes. Now then for the image: I hadn't even realized that you had named her Jen. I think the name suits her rather well n_n As to the colors of the image, I rather like how it all turned out. Even if much of the image was "eaten" away by the scanner, it really gives it a offset feeling of another world. Which so to speak, does seem fitting as Jen is of another world-at least the underwater world. I'm sorry if that last little bit doesn't make much sense n_n;

drawitout In reply to Firamodor [2012-06-08 22:33:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they can be so frustrating. D:
I tried to think of more... original names, but Jen just stuck for me, and I can't think of anything else that suits her though I did have someone point out that makes her "Jenny the Jellyshark" which sounds a bit funny, but never mind that XD. I'm glad you think it does too. c:
I find it's a lot easier after the first day to accept how my drawings scan... things look alright, better if I don't compare to the real-life image. that makes perfect sense to me, and I'm very pleased it has that effect. I did want things to have a bit of a different, but ultimately relatable feel, as Jen is otherwordly, but ultimately quite human in mind. Thank you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Firamodor In reply to drawitout [2012-06-12 13:16:31 +0000 UTC]

They can indeed D: Though, right now I don't have one. I'll have to get one soon..or a fax machine as the few jobs I've applied for require being able to fax + scan items and paperwork. I was enjoying not having to deal with them xD
I like the name Jen, though the "Jenny the Jellyshark" is an adorable concept of her name. I rather like it n_n I do agree with you, but at times it's hard not to compare it to the real life image. That's the only sad part of drawing is that you can't truly show people the real-life image unless they live close to you. But that's what scanners are for, even if they tend to hate us as much as we hate them XD I kinda got that feeling from the few images I have seen of Jen. She is otherworldly but at the same time I had the feeling that she was indeed human in mind. So to be honest, I think the image as it is scanned has done so in capturing that; but again that is just my thinking on it n_n And you are very welcome!

pastels and marker??? what just WHAT of both is that green light thing???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

drawitout In reply to Veloxirunner [2012-06-07 16:43:46 +0000 UTC]

Base was in markers, so there's a lot of black and bright green to start. Then I went over with pastels and kept layering and blending. The green and blue that is kind of underneath the highlights from the sun is done in marker, the sun's light and cast from was done in pastels. Then I used a black pastel more toward the horizon to blend the waves a bit more. More green. Repeat.
I also had to tweak things a bit in Photoshop to bring things back from the disastrous scan.
