Hello guys and gals!

This is just a fun little illustration I did in my free time this weekend (while watching tons and tons of 30 Rock). It has nothing to do with the new project I'm so excited about and mentioned in my recent journal...or at least, as it stands, this is totally separate, nothing more than its own, self-contained illustration.

I imagine these two are the king and queen of the merpeople, despite their lack of crowns (you don't need a crown to be a king, I suppose). I always envisioned the male merpeople to be much more creature-like, and the females to act as sirens, as they have been known to do in lore.

As you can see (and may be able to tell from most of my recent work), I'm looking to simplify my style into something a lot more cartoony and I'm liking the results. I don't struggle to draw things the way I used to, and I enjoy that feeling.

Also, I avoided too many shocking, vibrant colors for this image. I wanted to stick to atmosphere over self-indulgent color schemes (it was hard not to put hot pink all over the place XD), and I think it worked out well.

Let me know your thoughts on this one! I intended to post it hours ago (before my dentist appointment) but alas, DA was being stupid.

Adobe Illustrator CS. Probably 5 or 6 hours of work, don't remember though.

Note: I know there are boobs, but I really don't consider this mature content as it's not intended for any sexual purpose and barely even meets the criteria to be considered "artistic nude." So I'm not going to put a Mature Content filter on the image. However, if problems should arise, I will happily fix that.
