Description
True story.Β Well... sort of.Β Welcome to My Imaginary Life!I realized after finishing a project early in the morning that I had missed Pi Day completely! That's what happens when you're working on school projects, I guess. But then I was inspired to create this. Ironically, I finished penciling it at 3:14 AM this morning.
I unceremoniously borrowed my good friend Shane's characters Pierre and Andre for this strip. Go check his stuff out at !
Enjoy, and happy belated Pi Day!

A bit of an experiment in inking with Manga Studio 5. Honestly, I prefer MS4 for vector inking, but the raster inking in MS5 is gorgeously smooth.

Yeah. It's sort of "become" a holiday over the past decade here in the math and science circles.

I didn't even know there was a Pi Day . You learn something new everyday; I'll proably miss it next year to thoughm truth be told.
Beautiful digital inking though, btw . MS5 seems like a good program choice

It's not an official holiday or anything, but it's sort of become a "party day" for us scientists and engineers. Because apparently we need an excuse to throw a party.

Aye! That's exactly what happened to me (minus the pie to the face, of course). I get so focused on my work I totally don't realize what time it is.

And it's even more fun when you're scratching your head trying to figure out how the lamp is casting light at a new angle and color only to discover that it's sunrise. Thankfully I haven't pulled that one on a day where I had to be somewhere!

AHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh my GOODNESS. I was totally NOT expecting this. What a wonderful surpies... I mean surprise.
Love seeing your cartoon self and applying a pi day joke involving not only a pie in the face, but both of my silly characters as well. Thank you so much for including them. Wow, they look so good. I love how spiffy you made them look. You got their character and their mischievousness down perfectly. I love how you made yourself be the pie victim. I love this piece. Thanks again for having Pierre and Andre in here. I really appreciate it.

I'm glad you liked the comic!

It is so refreshing to see someone else who wants to use the pie joke in their work. There are several other cartoonists in our group here who just won't do it and avoid this type of humor like the plague unfortunately. So your willingness, even without me suggesting it, really made my day.

Droakir In reply to PierreAndAndre [2014-03-17 06:08:03 +0000 UTC]
Slapstick isn't for everybody, I can understand that. But it is considered classic for a reason.
I also figured if any of my characters got hit by a pie they'd probably get mad at me. So it'd better be me instead.
π: 0 β©: 1
PierreAndAndre In reply to Droakir [2014-03-17 12:38:54 +0000 UTC]
That's very true, slapstick isn't for everyone or fit into their comic. But the funny thing is, the individuals that avoid using pies or other messy humor, use a lot of slapstick. They just avoid messy slapstick. Rather strange since that is with one of the most classic forms of all of them. To each their own. Keeps it more special when fewer use it then.
Haha... Yeah, I don't think your other characters would appreciate a pie in the face. Although, in the right light hearted situation, I don't think Nob would mind too much. He seems a bit open minded.

Droakir In reply to PierreAndAndre [2014-03-17 15:25:54 +0000 UTC]
I don't mind slapstick too much, as long as I don't do it so much as to have my comics typecast as such. The same goes for pretty much any type of humor in my comics, though. I try to avoid getting stuck in one single type of humor for too long, because, like you said, it keeps things special when used sparingly.
Nob would probably be surprised by a pie to the face. Then he'd thank you for the snack.

Heh heh, a very inspired and clever gag here, cool to see yourself in toon form, and you did Pierre and Andre justice as well. I like the sharp and smooth inking here also, you definitely seem to be taking to MS5 like a duck to water.

I had a lot of fun actually drawing a 'toon version of myself for a change. I pretty much never do that. So it was fun trying to figure it out. And of course with a pie gag... I couldn't resist borrowing Shane's characters.
