Description
With 24 Hour Comic Day fast approaching I figured I'd toss out another resource that I've been working on for myself that I think the rest of you might enjoy as well. Although it's pretty easy to buy pre-ruled pages of Bristol Board for comics at Tabloid (11" x 17") size, I often find that I like to work on half-pages, or somewhat smaller. So I decided to create some pre-ruled templates similar to the commercial ones that you can use them on your own comics projects!NOTES:
- Printable template for making comics for print at Trade Paperback Size (6" x 9") and Digest Size (5.5" x 8.5"). Pre-ruled in non-photo blue (30% cyan).
- Templates provided for printing on Letter (8.5" x 11"), A4, and 9" x 12" paper, depending upon what kind of printer you have.
- These page templates are provided free of charge and are published under the Creative Commons license so you can use them for your commercial print or webcomic should you choose!
- I suggest doing a test print on cheap paper to make sure the settings work before trying to print out the whole thing on nicer paper. Also note that some heavier papers and card stock might have difficulty feeding through your printer. Please use with caution. I am not liable for fixing your printer if you jam it.
Printing Instructions:
1. Load the paper stock you wish to print into a color printer. If you wish to color your comic with watercolor or ink washes, I suggest trying a heavier stock and using a printer that doesn't have dye-based ink (such as a color laserjet).
2. Go to Print dialog.
3. Select the page that matches the size of paper you are printing.
4. Set the printer to print at Actual Size (it's okay if a little bit of the text gets cut off as long as the main ruled part of the page does not).
5. Print
6. Enjoy!
Regarding Black and White Printers:
You CAN print this out on a Black and White printer, however note that you will likely have to do a bit more clean-up to remove any template lines when you scan your piece in, as you cannot simply remove them via color channels. Alternatively might I suggest printing out some of my pre-ruled manga templates and save yourself the trouble? These you'll want to select "Fit" in the print dialog to expand them to your paper size for printing. Don't worry... they'll keep the right aspect ratio!
