Description
I've been wanting to make a tutorial for a while now. I'm no expert, and I think I end up retreading a lot of ground. If I were a better artist, more apt, a better planner, a genius at composition in term of light, etc., maybe I wouldn't have to. But this is where I am right now, so I thought I'd share the love.I've no idea if this is going to be remotely helpful, since I couldn't seem to get consistent screenshots regardless of what I was doing. But again, whatever. I didn't HAVE to do this, y'know.
I work in both Photoshop and Corel Painter 9. I hope I'm clear enough on when I'm in what program, but for the most part if it's not blending and painting directly, I'm in Photoshop. Layer settings and gradients Levels and all that: it's Photoshop.
Enjoy!

It was helpful, but I got lost at 4 D8 I don't understand the whole channels selection bit, because every time I try to get the 'marching ants' I end up with the entire image selected! @o@

Wow, how helpful! I didn't even know you could accomplish some of those effects with Photoshop (or Corel Painter, though I've never used it before).

This really looks like a technique I ought to try. All my favorite artists here use Painter so I kinda wanted to try it out, but there are so many mediums and brushes and the like that I dunno what's good for what and what to start with, and I'm too lazy to just fiddle with it.
My lineart's always so sloppy, though, so I tend to use vector 'cause it's easier for me and I can fix (the oh-so-many) mistakes.
Dunno why I haven't thought of using flats/selections yet, so thanks for this! It's in-depth enough to actually be a tutorial rather than some I've seen that leave out so much information that they just boil down to "Pick some colors, pick a light source, color it, and you're done! Thanks for reading my tut!"

God, I love that icon.
Me and my brother have the same thing about the White Dwarf miniature painting guides. It's very much the same: "Just choose your colors and there you go!"

That's funny. Y'know, I keep thinking about making a new icon, but then I remember you like it and that I'm too fickle to think up anything else I'd stick with anyway XD
Again, very nice tutorials! :3

woah this is an extraordinary tutorial!! It'll surely help me with the lineart! Thanks for making it! I've always struggled with pencil lineart converted onto the computer.. the only method I have used is multiply on the layers below so I can put colour in it =_=
