Auto-generated wallpaper. I took the Lego photo program and applied it to icons. The difference being that I don't need to pixelate the image... it is already pixelated. I just need to scale the image up and the size of the Lego is the scaling factor.

In some ways this works better than the photos as every pixel was hand placed by someone who made the original icon. I don't think the whole framing and wallpaper background works well with these, I think it would look better with making the background map white legos (or pick a best match color) the rest of the way to cover the whole background.

I have few hundred icons that this can work with, but most are computer related (file, disk, etc) and are somewhat boring. I was going to look for video game sprites to try the same thing.
