Description
Here he is! I like some things about the way it came out, but I'm less pleased with other aspects. He doesn't really look underwater, because he doesn't become less contrasty further from the viewer. I tried for hours to get it to look that way, but it wouldn't come out right. The composition's kind of boring, too. I didn't really think it out when I started drawing. Also, I've realized how much of a crutch textural detail is for me. Without the wrinkles and bumps in his skin, this wouldn't look very good at all. Speaking of textures, the wing membranes don't look at all realistic, I just made up the texture. That won't do. Anyway, sorry to go on and on, hope you enjoy. Critiques obviously welcome.Related content

Much Joy for the Cthulhu! And the anatomy's pretty sweet too!
If you're still fiddling with this, instead of using less contrast to make parts look further away maybe making those areas bluer will work instead. Water swallows up red, yellow and green tones so maybe that'll work.
Or maybe not, you can never know, art is silly like that

I'll probably be fiddlin' with this for a while yet. I tried overlaying varying amounts of blue based on how far from the viewer different parts of him are, but it came out too light for the background. Then why I overlaid blue on the background, and it looked flat and ugly. Maybe I'll figureo out how to get the effect eventually, but it will certainly take a lot more tweaking. Thanks for the comment!

maybe a couple of bubbles might help get that feeling of being under water???
Looks awesome as is though.

Thanks! That's a good suggestion, it's just that Cthulhu is meant to be tremendous, like Godzilla-sized, so bubbles wouldn't really show up at that scale. I could make some hint of particles in the water, though. Thanks for your comment.

You'd probably be able to see a few larger wobbly bubbles and a few little "misty" parts where smaller bubbles are leaking from. Anyway, good job. I was wonderin how'd this turn out.
