Here he is! I like some things about the way it came out, but I'm less pleased with other aspects. He doesn't really look underwater, because he doesn't become less contrasty further from the viewer. I tried for hours to get it to look that way, but it wouldn't come out right. The composition's kind of boring, too. I didn't really think it out when I started drawing. Also, I've realized how much of a crutch textural detail is for me. Without the wrinkles and bumps in his skin, this wouldn't look very good at all. Speaking of textures, the wing membranes don't look at all realistic, I just made up the texture. That won't do. Anyway, sorry to go on and on, hope you enjoy. Thanks so much for the thoughtful evaluation! I feel much the same way as you do about rendering the unimaginable. If they ever made a movie with a sufficient budget, I bet there are ways they could animate the Dread God to more fully capture his otherworldliness. If so, I hope I get to work on it!

excellent job on him... though im not sure bout the background... i can tell it supposed to be underwater but well doesnt really give off the underwater feel... i think i said that right... hope ya can understand what i was tryin to say... lol... but anyhow.. excellent job on him... he looks great...

Hehheh, good ol' old ones. I've seen a LOT of Cthulhu lately, it's really weird. Nice job on this. Evevn if you didn't get all that stuff you mentioned, you got some practice so it'll be better next time.

Awesome Cthulhu I like the textures and the dark blues and greens of the skin. I didn't realize the scale until I read your coment that it should be the size of Godzilla. I am sure you will figure out a way to make it look more underwater - in my opinion it already does. Perhaps the wings could be a little more blured and blend into the background.

If I had to critique anything it would be...where are the shadowy spires of the sunken temples of Ryleth??? You may be able to fit a couple in to the right of him..getting the scale of those right would make Old Squidface look humongous...just an idea..

Thanks man! I 'preciate it. As to Ryleth, you're right, it should be in there. My paltry excuse for its absence is that I hadn't actually read any of the Cthulhu mythos until yesterday, so I didn't know nothin' bout Ryleth. When I finally did read The Call of Cthulhu, I decided that rather than adding to my current Cthulhu picture, I'd do a different peice depicting him as he bursts from the open doorway in the upheaved temple, to the horror of the Norwegian sailors. And that would have something remotely resembling a composition, as well as Ryleth.

Ah, you really have to full-view this one to really appreciate it. Love it, bud. I like how some of him is concealed by the shadows, making him more creepy and mysterious. I also LOVE the colors you used, and the texture of his skin. Great work.
