Description
Part of my continuing quest to create an original-looking dragon. In this sketch I used several ideas:1. Based on an illustration in National Geographic
2. Based on a painting by Jason Chan[link]
3. Not so much a dragon as some herbivorous reptile
4. Based on a monoclonius (came out looking pretty stupid if you ask me)
Drawn in pencil, shading added in Photoshop 7.

Thanks! I gotta do some finished versions of these guys some day, they've been collecting dust on the shelf.
...The dragon shelf.

Thanks! Wish I could take credit for the design, but this is drawn from an illustration by the inimitable Jason Chan.

Thanks! Monoclonius was an herbivorous ceratopsian dinosaur. It's name means "single stem", 'cause it's got one horn.... yep.

I love the perspective and facial structure of no.2. Very unique in its own way.

Thanks! But I, uh, can't really take credit for that. As with some of the dinosaurs, this was drawn from another picture. In this case, something by the amazing Jason Chan [link]
Everybody keeps saying they love #2, and I keep feeling guilty!

Thanks! Well, technically I can't take credit for "coming up with it," since #2 is based on an illustration by Jason Chan [link] .

2 is quite awesome. Just a bit of shading adds so much to your sketches.

you are good at creating newer and different ones everytime, which is not easy for every one to do...

Thanks! I was going for variety with this series, and I think I succeeded to some extent, but they all kinda look like dinosaurs.

yeah! they look like dinos but dragons are reptiles too(if i am right), so, you may have to go about the reptilean anatomy to draw them... but nice style... please continue.

where did you get the reference for there? is there a good place to get dinosaur references online?

Most of the references for these I got from books, but there are a few good online dinosaur galleries, such as: [link] [link]

Thanks! But you should see the original painting here: [link] . It's the thumbnail of the boy with the sword.

top left is T-rexish but the angle is cool maybe an unplumed female? top right looks like a non-flier, and i really like the smug look on the bottom far right one, sort of a sher-cahn the tiger from "jungle book" feel to it. again very original

Cool idea about the top right one, and you're definitely right about the top left. That one was based on a quadrapedal pre-dinosaur. Thanks so much for the comment!
