Butterscotch is the adopted daughter of Lyra Heartstrings and Bonbon. Rescued as a baby by Bonbon while on a secret mission, and having every intention to deposit the little foal safely to an orphanage after making sure she was alright, Bonbon, in a moment of weakness, brought the baby home, and together she and Lyra, already happily married for some years at that point, fell in love with the little thing, deciding to adopt her and raise her as their daughter then and there. Butterscotch's biological parents were the tragic victims of a rampaging monster that Bonbon had been sent to neutralize by the S.M.I.L.E Agency, reassembled and reinstated years prior (more on that later). Friendly and kind, Butterscotch is a sweet and caring mare. Well-liked and a good friend to many, she spends most of her days trying to be helpful to others and making ponies happy in any way she can. Especially talented in making candy, like her confectioner mother, Butter's sweets have won many ponies over, making her a favorite within the small town. At first glance, that's all there seems to be for Butterscotch, a nice and charming pony, but there's more to her underneath that pleasant smile. Butterscotch takes after her mother Bonbon in more ways than one, and her occupation as a secret agent is just another example of that fact.

Butterscotch became a recruit for the Secret Monster Intelligence League of Equestria at a young age, having been trained by Bonbon for many years before joining, making her a formidable spy already by the time she officially joined the agency. The secret agent life wasn't what Bonbon wanted for her daughter, but after Butterscotch had figured out her mother's double life when she was only a child, Butter grew up with the wish of becoming a spy just like her mom. Pleading almost everyday for months for her mother to train her, Bonbon eventually caved, teaching her little daughter everything that she knew, and after showing great promise and commitment to her training, Bonbon eventually allowed her to join S.M.I.L.E when she felt she was ready for the danger and responsibility as a junior agent, though Butter would soon climb the ranks and prove her worth. Butterscotch is a highly capable spy because of her mother's training, so much so that Bonbon, satisfied by her daughter's abilities, decided to retire early from the agency, passing down her code name, Agent Sweetie Drops, so Butterscotch could continue her legacy. Ruthless and resolute, Butterscotch always dedicates 110% of her energy to her duties, ever determined to complete her mission objectives in order to keep Equestria safe, no matter the personal cost. Her selflessness makes her especially dangerous to her targets, and while she won't hesitate to do what she needs to do to neutralize threats, Butter is always responsible about how much force she uses, constantly trying to maintain damages to a minimum. She can take serious punishment and deliver serious hurt right back, and she hasn't been bested by any beast or monster just yet.

Aside from her closeness to the other S.M.I.L.E agents, which I'll cover soon enough, Butterscotch's best friend in the whole world is the grumpy Marshal Trim . Butter is able to see right through Marshal's stuffy personality and really enjoys his company, which surprises literally everyone, including, and especially, Marshal. Butter thinks he's funny and smart, and seriously misunderstood, and she's constantly trying to make Marshal realize his own worth, as well as trying to get him to catch some sleep and take care of himself more. Overall, they have a good, strong friendship, and while Marshal may be the one more in charge in their friendship, Butter is happy to be his support system, since he needs it more than her. He has no idea about Butter's double life- no one outside of her family does, and that's just the way she's going to keep it.

Phew, had plenty to write about good ol' Butter! I've really enjoyed working with her so far, and I have plenty of more ideas about S.M.I.L.E that I hope to reveal soon. Fun note about Butter's hair accessories: her hair tie also serves as an emergency smoke bomb, and her bobby pins serve as a commlink and locator beacon! She's got plenty of other fancy spy gadgets, but that's for another time, hehe. I'll be sure to update this with her cutiemark once I figure it out. In the meantime, enjoy, guys!
