Description
The updated version of my Mass Effect Galaxy Map 3.0!Updates include:
-Addition of the relay network
-Addition of locations within clusters. These include all known locations of homeworlds, important storyline locations, space stations, and various other worlds to flesh out the map.
-Addition of political boundaries. Created my own areas for Geth Space and Batarian Space based on what we have seen in game. And altered the known borders slightly to account for descriptions of clusters and planets with regards to their locations.
I hope you enjoy the map! It was a long time coming.
As always, this is a fan work, and should not be considered canon.
Mass Effect is created and owned by EA and Bioware.
If you would like to use this map, feel free, but please give credit.

I know it's been a long time since you uploaded this, but I've just started a new playthrough of the games to coincide with a planned project of my own, and I've picked up on something that's...possibly just a lore goof, but which could explain some of the confusing bits of the map shown in three. In the first game, both Noveria and Eden Prime are said to be within the Attican Traverse; the former being the "Corporate Capital" of the region, and the latter being on the border of the area - the Council initially dismisses Udina's complaints about the attack as being a known risk when settling in that area. Ergo, I'd say it's likely that the map was different back then; Earth and the Arcturus Stream would have been part of "Inner Council Space", while the rest of the area marked Systems Alliance (including the Batarian Space) would have been part of the Attican Traverse...I'd also say the entire Skyllian Verge would have fallen inside this area at the time, and to explain how it can be such a broad region, perhaps it's supposed to refer to the outermost ring of the Milky Way that the Batarians inhabit; that'd explain how they could have gone "Well, this whole region is ours!"
Anyway, after the events of MEI, with humanity being granted a place on the Council, I'd say that they were able to expand the limits of Council Space and thus create the "Systems Alliance" territory...whether or not this included the Batarian territories or not would be up for debate; perhaps the Systems Alliance, as a Council Member, was tasked with overseeing that area even if it was de facto independent, or perhaps it only fell into their area of jurisdiction when the Reapers massacred the rulers of Khar'Shan and thus destroyed the Batarian Hegemony...food for thought, in any case!

Really good stuff, glad you made this! But you should consider making it of bigger format, so that we can at least zoom in on specific words.

Hmm, it is indeed an excellent map. Should you wish to improve it further, might I suggest labeling the various arms/arm segments of the galaxy to correspond to their real-life counterparts?

Man this is so helpful,, thank you... trying to figure out distances .. the galaxy map on my TV is skewed so I have to figure in for distortion, this works better.
Still, this map tells me close to the same... Tuchanka is roughly 15,000 light years from Earth, so it would take even the Normandy SR2 almost two years to get there, and it would take the Turians and Krogan, et almost 5 years to get home with their fleets.Β Wow!Β those relays are important...

Yeah.
And it gets pretty bad if you go and try to figure out where the Skyllian Verge is.
Its a pretty big area of space, stretching from the Armstrong Nebula to the Viper Nebula.
So thats a lot of territory that was claimed by the batarians that was lost to the Alliance. Makes sense to have a chip on your shoulder for that.

Awesome! I will be using it for a blogpost I'm working on talking about quirality. Rannoch and Palaven are on opposite sides of the galaxy, but quarians and turians both use D-amino acids. That probably means that in the ME universe the quiral version of the proteins used in biology is not a local phenomenon.

Also; "Earth Systems Alliance Space is a region of the Milky Way galaxy. It represents territory under the control of the human Systems Alliance, but also envelops the heart of batarian space, including the batarian homeworld."
So you'd need to extend Alliance space to cover Khar'Shan as well.

DWebArt In reply to Patchamac [2012-11-07 09:13:50 +0000 UTC]
That makes absolutely no sense to do that.

Patchamac In reply to DWebArt [2012-11-08 00:41:06 +0000 UTC]
Don't be rude; all I'm doing is pointing out possible mistakes. The wiki clearly states what is fact, and what isn't. Khar'shan is inside Alliance Territory, so it makes sense to cover it. To be as accurate as possible, you would probably need to overlap the two regions, which done in cartography anyway.
I understand not wanting to make so many changes so soon after completing your map (Which I do like, by the way, its easily the most aesthetically pleasing one I've seen) but it IS a mistake, and therefore SHOULD be addressed.
π: 0 β©: 1
DWebArt In reply to Patchamac [2012-11-08 02:01:56 +0000 UTC]
Im not going to overlap them, because to me that makes very little sense.
In the context of ME3, where the batarians are completely wiped out, it makes some sense to have that area of space be under the jurisdiction of the Alliance, as that is the most powerful entity nearby.
But it makes very little sense to believe that prior to ME3, all of batarian space would be considered human space. The only region of space said to be that way is the Skyllian Verge, which is known to be along the border of the two states.
So until some canon source, outside of an in game map for a game mechanic, says that all of batarian space has always been considered Alliance territory, Im not changing it. End of discussion.

Patchamac In reply to DWebArt [2012-11-08 02:20:52 +0000 UTC]
Its unclear then where your map takes place then; but considering you do have the Alliance Space clearly marked, the Batarians have already been destroyed; so Khar'Shan should be assimilated anyway.
You would overlap them to signify that two factions control them; the space is Alliance, but the planet is Batarian-owned, not human.
Its true that prior to ME3, Khar'Shan wouldn't be in Alliance Space, but as I've already mentioned, in this map you present the galaxy as it is in ME3, not before. So again, for the purpose of accuracy, the planet should be covered.
And its clearly canon, considering the multiple references that are available, but the canon map alone should be enough.

DEATHSCOPE In reply to Patchamac [2012-12-18 10:56:05 +0000 UTC]
This map encompasses all the locations of all three games, but it is still prior to ME1. It does not, in anyway, represent the time of ME3. The Batarians haven't been destroyed yet by the Reapers, so their territories are still there.

Patchamac In reply to DWebArt [2012-11-07 08:27:43 +0000 UTC]
Planets are more specific than nebulae I think; You can do both; have the border between the Traverse and the Terminus splitting it in half.

Dracco0085 [2012-11-01 04:38:07 +0000 UTC]
Very nice, Your map makes a lot more sense then the one in game, where the Alliance has a -huge- amount of territory. Here, the Batarian space is blocked out and it takes is down a third.
Also, don't know if you want to add this, but from what I get from the books, The Voyager Cluster, Artimus Tao, Hades Gamma, Gemini Sigma, Attican Beta, and ,maybe, Argus Rho, were all part of the Skylian Verge that the Alliance and Batarians fought over. So it's even less, 'cause that's all frontier.
Also would kinda show why the Batarians were so pissed. It literally cut them off from any expansion.

DWebArt In reply to Dracco0085 [2012-11-01 07:30:55 +0000 UTC]
First let me say thank you for the compliments about my map. Its always nice to hear people like these.
The problem I have with adding the Verge is that its not that well defined. According to the Mass Effect wiki (which is where I get my information for my maps), there are places pretty far off from human and batarian space that are listed as part of the Verge. This problem actually occurs a lot in the game, as some clusters have systems that contradict each other in terms of their placement in certain regions of space. Its why I had a lot of trouble working out a map like this pre-ME3. (I do have one btw, but some of the space is very different in my rendering).
I honestly believe there was some miscommunication between those in charge of writing and those in charge of the layout of the clusters/systems.

I am running a table top game using the Mutants and Master Minds system to run Mass Effect. I would greatly like to use your map here as the galaxy map for it, however it is to small, I can not zoom in to read any of the relay names. This makes me very sad as your map here is the best I could local on the whole of the web.
