Description
RTS - Experimental Walker Unit (Different Angles) - UPDATED texture on June 25thScene Image Here
RED TEAM WALKER UNIT - Real-time Strategy Game style. (Like Supreme Commander, Total Annihilation, Command and Conquer, Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War, etc.)
Pretty much done with the texturing on this one. I could still improve it and add more color variation but I'm not sure if I'll do that. On to to the animation stage!
Walker
- Slower movement speed
- Fast front heavy machinegun
- Fast side medium anti-air guns
- Heavy top cannons
- Heavy missile launchers under the cockpit
3700 Polygons
2048x2048 Texture map (Just for the close-up shots)
2048x2048 Normal map (Just for the close-up shots)
1024x1024 Specular map.
128x128 Environment map.
Other
Modeling and rendering was done in 3DS Max, UV mapping in DeepUV and all texturing was done in Photoshop.

It looks like a giant fire ant...maybe that should be the name - the Fire Ant Walker unit - built for aerial counterattack and siege tactics. Does that work or no?

Alright, it's officially named "Fire Ant" now and he's a little video with it. [link]

Well I do like fire...[link] Experimental units in SupCom tend to have silly names like "Fatboy" so I will consider that.

It has a Dark Eldar look to it. Mind if I use it if there's ever a time?

I'm only interested in getting these RTS models in an RTS game like SupCom or Dawn of War 2...apart from that, I wanna be the only one using them, sorry.

Only 5 guns?
Thats not Nearly enough!
Serious note: I know its kinda late to be commenting on the basic construction, but the way all the legs are the same kinda bugs me, the fact the main body feels a bit "thin" doesn't really make it better. Maybe try giving the body some bulk near the rea and adjusting the legs.
But fret not, I've seen much much worse.
Even in my own Archives I'm afraid to admit, so shameful.
Good Luck on your next project.

Yeah, I really built the torso around the legs and wanted to overlap as many parts in the UV map as possible, since it's a game model, that's why I cloned so many parts.
I do agree that a thicker torso could look better, but for now I'm happy with it and after UV mapping it for 6-8 hours and spending over 20 hours on it total, I don't plan on re-doing it. Also, I don't want it to look "too" large since it has to fit with my other models from this race.
I'm making a Supreme Commander type race with 3 levels of assault, support and artillery units (most modeled, some textured, some only drawn) plus these mixed "Experimental" units, so I can't go too crazy with them or they wouldn't make sense in a game. I could give them 50 nuke launchers but that wouldn't realistically work for an RTS game. (would be cool though!)

If your on the GPG forums look me up: OrangeKnight I can help you get set up, I moderate the Modding Section over there.

Sounds good. I don't go on any TA or SupCom forums, but TA had tons of great unit mods so I'm curious to see what people are making for SupCom.

Yup. The vast majority of my work is low poly models, properly mapped and using one texture. (plus normal maps, specular maps, etc.)
Unfortunately none of them are used in any real games.
