F.A.Q:
(updated 15/01/2012)

"WHERE CAN I GET SAI?"
[link] this is the official site, where you can get a free trial for one month, after that you must buy it..... yes, piracy DOES exist but i won't tell you where.

"CAN I DO THIS WITHOUT A TABLET?"
It's not easy, but yes, you can. The result might not be exactly the same but you can get a similar work. But you have to arrange the transparency and other features of each brush to achieve certain effects. How? Well, i don't know, i don't paint with my mouse for more than 3 years so i forgot how to do it.

"CAN I USE THIS WITH OTHER PROGRAMS?"
Yes, you can. Not everything, but at least the coloring technique.

"IS THERE SAI VERSION FOR MAC?"
No, but there are other good programs for MAC, you can try those.

"WHAT'S THE SUPR BUTTON?"
Sorry people, i don't own a laptop with the keyboard in english, so i think you have it as "delete"

"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR WATERCOLOR BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]

"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR REDJUICE BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]

"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR CHARCOAL BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]
The texture and the brush tip can be found at the download section of this description.

"WHITE LAYER AND DARK LAYER... I JUST DON'T GET IT"
[link] check this small pic to understand how to arrange them. Why do i use them? As you see, i paint and my color doesn't respect the lineart at first, so i erase later... to find every part that i wanna erase, instead looking at a white background i use the dark layer. Also, if the white layer is well done enough, i can select it, invert it and erase the parts that i don't need without using the eraser -which takes more time-
=A= well... as it's kinda hard to explain and stuff... I've made another pic to explain it as a step by step... Some of you might notice the good side of using both... if you don't it's fine... that step is optional anyway. [link]

Anyway a lot of people asks me this even if the answer is big, with examples and clear, so i won't reply to that question again.

"HOW CAN I MAKE MY OWN BRUSH"
e_eU rly?... ahh... this is the tutorial where you must learn it... read it again plz.

Thank you for posting this! I've been using SAI for a long time, but I've never bothered to learn about the program before I started to use it.(I like to dive into new programs without any research) I never knew about the Stabilizer option and I just started to mess around with it. It's make a huge improvement! Thank you again!

Okay, I have a different question (from what I asked last time):
How do you use the fringe effect??? *very confused again*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 3

DyMaraway In reply to Equestrian-Equine [2011-12-08 23:50:58 +0000 UTC]

i change the settings as I show at the tutorial... and with a tool like watercolor, brush or airbrush, i paint.... o-o don't know how to explain it better

Mino-Yomi In reply to Equestrian-Equine [2011-11-25 03:51:56 +0000 UTC]

It's above the layers area. You'll see a plus sign and 'paint effects'. Click that, and then select fringe from the options (it should say 'none'). Then you'll get the 'width' meter, and the 'amount' meter. You can play around with them until you find a look that suits your fancy

I hope I helped

Equestrian-Equine In reply to Mino-Yomi [2011-11-25 19:30:04 +0000 UTC]

Oooh okay...
but then do you use something ON your drawing, or do you just paint?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mino-Yomi In reply to Equestrian-Equine [2011-11-25 21:47:33 +0000 UTC]

You can just paint, and the fringe will be applied to the edges of each shape you make on that specific layer

AegaChan [2011-11-16 13:22:36 +0000 UTC]

Geh, it's me again xD Just wondering about the tones. Should I make a new folder and to put them in? How should I do to use them in SAI, I mean, will they appear as (for example) papertex or as "themselfs" (meaning as tones)? =.= This stuff really isn't my strong point xD sorry for bothering you all the time

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DyMaraway In reply to AegaChan [2011-12-08 23:52:21 +0000 UTC]

Usually i make a new folder, but you don't have to. Just write the path of the folder at the notepad file.
they appear at the parts I show with the screenshots, you don't have to load one by one.

Equestrian-Equine In reply to ??? [2011-11-15 01:01:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! Just one question...I don't understand the brush texture/pattern part.
How do you save it?? As what kind of file, and where? What do I do with the text?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DyMaraway In reply to Equestrian-Equine [2011-11-15 06:23:45 +0000 UTC]

Each texture is a .bmp file
Those files can be saved inside a new folder or inside the ones that I mention at this tutorial -if you don't have those, then you can create them-
To save them as part of the program, you must write the text as shown at the tutorial but instead writing "filename" you have to write the name of the file that you want to use with sai.
If the file isn't a .bmp, this won't work.
Also, some ppl told me that even when they do all as I've explained, they can't install the tones and patterns. Others told me that they never needed to do that, the program added the files without doing the notepad part... so i can't say that my process always works. It worked for me but I don't know if it always works with other SAI users.

I don't know if this helps. Feel free to ask more stuff if you want

Thanks for the tutorial!! >w< i have a question.. I tried making my own brushes but i when i did everything.. it won't showed up. D: is it because the size of the bmp too big?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DyMaraway In reply to UnmeiLi [2011-10-04 13:50:28 +0000 UTC]

i don't know but why don't you try to save it with the same size of the files that i've uploaded inside the zip file (or was it rar? i don't remember XD but y'know what i mean)
you can test that same brush with other texture or tip to see if it's the file or maybe a setting that you have to change

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UnmeiLi In reply to DyMaraway [2011-10-04 15:26:11 +0000 UTC]

well..the thing is.. i cant download it..because my country blocked Megaupload =w=;;

well .. all the brushes i make (512x512 = 768 kb and the 256x256 = 192 kb.) and when i see other people's brushes are all 257 kb and 65 or less.. D: hope you understand what i'm saying..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DyMaraway In reply to UnmeiLi [2011-10-04 23:18:32 +0000 UTC]

oh i see o3o that's good to know so i can upload that file to another page... what do you use to download?

mine are 512x512 and 256x256 but as you say, their size are 257 and 192kb... so i don't know if that's why you are having trouble with the files that you own
