F.A.Q:
(updated 15/01/2012)
"WHERE CAN I GET SAI?"
[link] this is the official site, where you can get a free trial for one month, after that you must buy it..... yes, piracy DOES exist but i won't tell you where.
"CAN I DO THIS WITHOUT A TABLET?"
It's not easy, but yes, you can. The result might not be exactly the same but you can get a similar work. But you have to arrange the transparency and other features of each brush to achieve certain effects. How? Well, i don't know, i don't paint with my mouse for more than 3 years so i forgot how to do it.
"CAN I USE THIS WITH OTHER PROGRAMS?"
Yes, you can. Not everything, but at least the coloring technique.
"IS THERE SAI VERSION FOR MAC?"
No, but there are other good programs for MAC, you can try those.
"WHAT'S THE SUPR BUTTON?"
Sorry people, i don't own a laptop with the keyboard in english, so i think you have it as "delete"
"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR WATERCOLOR BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]
"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR REDJUICE BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]
"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR CHARCOAL BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]
The texture and the brush tip can be found at the download section of this description.
"WHITE LAYER AND DARK LAYER... I JUST DON'T GET IT"
[link] check this small pic to understand how to arrange them. Why do i use them? As you see, i paint and my color doesn't respect the lineart at first, so i erase later... to find every part that i wanna erase, instead looking at a white background i use the dark layer. Also, if the white layer is well done enough, i can select it, invert it and erase the parts that i don't need without using the eraser -which takes more time-
=A= well... as it's kinda hard to explain and stuff... I've made another pic to explain it as a step by step... Some of you might notice the good side of using both... if you don't it's fine... that step is optional anyway. [link]
Anyway a lot of people asks me this even if the answer is big, with examples and clear, so i won't reply to that question again.
"HOW CAN I MAKE MY OWN BRUSH"
e_eU rly?... ahh... this is the tutorial where you must learn it... read it again plz.

I seem to be having trouble overwriting the configuration. I have unzipped the file multiple times, and yet every time I load SAI the brushes and textures are no where to be seen.
Perhaps it is the issue of SAI I have, which admittedly is a cracked download that I received from a friend. Any help with this would be much appreciated.

o3o you downloaded it and pasted it but... have you "installed" them? (remember you must write inside the file to add one by one)

KuroBlanc In reply to DyMaraway [2011-09-10 12:28:18 +0000 UTC]
I have done that, written the codes within the tex and brush note configuration. It ends up either deleting the edits on the notes, not appearing in SAI-- or the brushes and textures show in the drop down menu but have otherwise no effect. The preinstalled textures work just fine, the custom do not.

Again it must be since the program is an unlicensed crack. Thank you for taking your time to help me with this, I felt it appropriate to backtrack to the user who taught about the program's functions.
I should also make mention of the fact that your skillfully worded and detailed tutorials have been more than helpful to a blundering artist such as myself, so thank you. :'3

i always get worried when i have to write any tutorial XD
sometimes at home when i explain something, no one gets it no matter how many times or different ways i use to be clear with them XD also i get more and more nervous when i do it for DA because english isn't my main language and i never practice it -well, i write it here, but it's not like i can speak it as it should be, or think with enough speed to sound normal XD-
thanks for your comment, i hope you'll fix that problem. Mine is cracked but I've seen there are different sai features sometimes -don't know why- so, even if mine works fine, i don't know how to fix other sai "versions". If you can't fix it, maybe you should try downloading a cracked sai from other place.....-e3eU i'm not the best person to say "buy it" cuz i wouldn't XD, i love it, but i wouldn't pay for it lol-
thanks again!!!

is there anyway to download pre-made brushes for sai or do you basically have to make 'em on your own?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DyMaraway In reply to Luckyeight888 [2011-09-08 04:19:30 +0000 UTC]
the way to download might be when a user makes or already has the files and share with others... if you don't find anyone who does that, then you must make your own

Very nice tutorial. XD I always search for this kind of tutorial, but the good ones are hard to get, so I'm glad that I stumbled upon yours. You have a nice way of explaining without being overly detailed, but straight to the point. Love it.
Great job on the tutorial. Keep going and good luck, dymaraway! ^^V

first of all you need a tablet
then, you have to change the minimum size value to 0%, if it's 100, the stroke has the same thickness when it starts and when it ends.
;w; sorry about my basic english, I hope this will help you

great tutorial! this certainly helped clarify some things for me! I just need a little more help. In the last part you said something about a texture tool. I don't think I have it. Either that or I just don't know what it is LOL. Is it that scroll bar with all the textures or is it a tool all by itself? Sorry I really like that watercolor effect and I've been trying to achieve it for a while now.

I'm having some trouble with adding textures. I add the bmp. files then write them in the notepad as you've shown and with the exact name file. They show up in the textures menu, but the texture itself hasn't been applied to it. Is there something wrong that I'm doing?
Thank you~

DyMaraway In reply to Leafy-chwan [2011-07-29 23:19:30 +0000 UTC]
check the settings under the texture menu. Maybe the texture it's there but it's more transparent than what you want.
