Beautiful rendition, but perspective wise shouldn't the Troll be considerably larger than the immortal Elf?

These were originally two separate digital illustrations for Shadowrun that my husband laid out next to each other for my book ECHO RECOIL. For that purpose, it was less about trying to represent the Shadowrun universe than it was to show off the art.

I bought a print of Harlequin at the "Spiel" in Essen, Germany, last year from you - every day I'm glad I did

Thank you. I won't be making it back to Spiel this year.

The Harlequin kinda resembles Creegan.

The character Harlequin was from the Shadowrun roleplaying game in 1991. Other artists, including Brom, painted his iconic portrait for the game. Fans of the game in the UK went on to write and produce a "Shadowrun-inspired" sci-fi tv series called Cleopatra 2525 in 2001-02 and directly stole the character, his attitude, his lines, and even Brom's famous portrait for the look of their character Creegan. (Google Brom and Harleqiun and you will see the resemblance though Brom's is 10 year earlier). In the Shadowrun universe, the immortal elf Harlequin,Β Har'lea'quinn, Caimbuel, or Quentin 'Quinn' Harlech, gave his name and makeup to the Medieval character. While surly, tricky, clever, and a downright bastard willing to send anyone to their death if the sacrifice made sense - Harlequin's ultimate goal was to stave off the impending breach of demon from a parallel dimension.

I looked it up, and I see that they did steal that look. Did they get sued?

BTW, this is an amazing piece.

Thank you. I've been playing the game for 20 years, so it was a personal goal to do him justice for the game. He has to look authoritarian, slightly creepy, but bad-ass, even through his ridiculous make-up. My husband loves him because "I just want to punch him in the face." The owner Catalyst has a framed print of him.

I don't think they got sued - at the time (2001-3) the game was being shopped around by the owners amd eventually Topps purchased the property and eventually licensed it to InMediaRes (DBA Catalyst Game Labs) and it being in the UK, probably slipped under everybodies' radar. It also didn't turn into anything huge - only lasted 2 seasons.

1. You're welcome.

2. I just watched "Creegan's" debut episode of Cleopatra 2525 online, and all I can say was...they also did him justice!

No offence, but I remember looking him up, back in 2012, and all I thought was, that this guy would probably sound like a Joker rip-off!

But I was so wrong!

Instead they made him sound calm, yet sinister and creepy. With a half-civilizedΒ personality, and a look on hisΒ face that screamed "I'm gonna kill you, then makeΒ weapons outta your bones!"

He was like Hannibal Lector in clown face-paint.

Thanks. The illos weren't ever shown together - so placing them together is awkward. The troll should be at least a foot or two taller than Harlequin - but it would make an odd image like that.

Really amazing piece of art. Harlequin is really on the spot. I'm not so happy with the troll. I don't think he looks roughed enough with no dermal deposits and hes teaths arent big enough. Besides the horns he more looks like a human to me. Still a very good drawing though

That's a critique of the character as written and art notes for him and not of my art.

excellent work! love it! can't wait to see the finished product! (i have a Shadowrun game running at the moment.) but i was under the impression trolls were 7-9 feet tall. (close to 2 meters or more)

i do not wish to be mean or rude i crave for this type of talent!

echo-x In reply to dragonduo05 [2012-07-22 00:37:18 +0000 UTC]

This is just a comp of the art. It's not supposed to be to scale because that would make a huge and unsightly empty space over Harlequin. You're right - Shadowrun Trolls are 7-9 feet tall generally.

I've been playing the game for 20 years - and it's always a thrill when they request art from me. I've done 5 covers and numerous interiors for Shadowrun 4th Ed. so far.
