Description
Here we go! If you want to maintain the illusion that my hair is actually magical and glowy and long and blonde, look away now. XDGOOD GOD THAT TOOK AGES. Kudos and credit to for the amazing beta job (she is incredible, all remaining mistakes are my own) and to Alice, my flatmate, for being that other person in Step Ten. Alice also deserves credit for putting up with me for the week it takes to make this wig. Seriously, it's hair everywhere, make sure no one is going to destroy you before you try this. And remember to clean up after yourself! XD
As it says in the tutorial this is NOT the easiest way to make this wig. Buying a bucketload of colour-matched extensions, for example, might be easier. I had no luck finding golden blonde extensions though (as opposed to ash, platinum, etc) and I am a pedantic little twit. You may have more luck than me though!
I really hope someone finds this useful. I'm posting it by popular demand and I've seen a lot of people wondering how to tackle it, so hopefully it'll come in handy! It's lovely to be able to feed back into a community that has given me so much. Please let me know if you have any questions - I'm happy to answer, and if there are a lot of them, I'll post a FAQ.
Good luck! Follow your heart, make a wig, find your Eugene (...profit?).

I could never do something like that. Especially since I haven't even styled a simpler wig before.

Would it work to buy wigs that don't have bangs? I'm looking at these.

Probably! I mainly used the shorter bangs to get the lift at the front - if you think you can accomplish that without the bangs (or if you want to cut them yourself) then go for it!

This is brilliant. I'm currently working on a wig the same length as this, but much thicker with a looser plait, and if it weren't for this I wouldn't have a clue on how to make it.
Just a couple of questions, how flexible was it? by that I mean if you sat down with it behind you, would it lie flat of the surface and bend?
Also (You can ignore this question if you wish) How much did it cost to make?

echoing-artemis In reply to VeryPleasant [2012-05-17 11:00:35 +0000 UTC]
Not very flexible! It does cause some difficulties sitting - I couldn't put it over my shoulder or anything to keep it out of the way. It can bend, but generally only in one place at a time, and only forward/back (not side-to-side).
All up, including flowers, around $180 - not as bad as I thought it would be! -___-;

The wigs came from ebay...if you have time, they're linked in a few places in the comments. One reader even talked about her experience negotiating a lower price! You might find that useful. :3

is it heavy? and if you are going to sell it how much?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
echoing-artemis In reply to KrisLiao [2011-12-28 04:48:49 +0000 UTC]
It's actually not too bad! Stays on with just a few bobby pins, & it didn't even give me a headache!
As for selling, I've no plans to sell this one or take commissions for more (my flatmate would kill me). It's so labour intensive, it would end up costing more than it seems worth, I think. D:

Quick question,
how long is your actual hair? do you think a wig that heavy and long would agree with waist-length hair piled up on top of your head already? :T
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
echoing-artemis In reply to melodoocosplay [2011-12-06 23:20:00 +0000 UTC]
Fairly short at the moment (you can see it in the steampunk shots in my gallery). But I think that as long as you bind your hair up well, it shouldn't make a difference. I know two people with very long hair that braid and coil, who never seem to have a problem.

Hey lovely, I'm so sorry to bombard you with questions about this tutorial, but out of interest, how much does your Rapunzel wig weigh? I am tossing up between a few different tutorial methods for my own Rapunzel wig and while I definitely like the look of yours the best because the dual layers of extensions and wig hair add a depth to the wig I really like, I might be forced to use a different method if yours weighs too much more, because I'm pretty sensitive to heavy wigs and I'd like to enjoy the con! :S (Essentially another tutorial I'm looking at doesn't use the extension sets to cover the batting, but covers them with a nylon "sock" sewed over them in a similar colour to the wig hair which then goes over the top to cover.) Anyway, please let me know!
This is quite possibly the weirdest question I've ever asked anyone, lol.

Oh gosh, I don't own a pair of scales! I'm sorry I can't be too precise. D: But I was really surprised with how easy it was to wear on the day. Just a few bobby pins, and I wore it two days straight without the need for any pain relievers!
