You are fantastic!! I almost died from shock looking at the tiger stripes....How long did it take you? Wow...Frisket is awesome!! Toobad I can't use it since my art exam only gives us 1 and a half hours to paint. I have to slap on paint as fast as possible to finish it....>.<

I have a different brand of masking fluid, and I find that as I'm taking it off, it always picks up the pencil lines underneath it! It's very annoying, because the pencil lines are important in my paintings and I always have to redraw them after removing the masking fluid. Does your brand not do this?

I've always been rather terrible with watercolors but this sure gave me some good tips of how ot improve. I'm still in process of learning to draw human beings, let alone paint them, but I am wishing to get to that stage one day. Thanks for helping us all out into finding helpful tips in the process.

Actualy I'm not much of a fan of slapping down water then the paint, I'm one of those freaks that paints onto dry paper.
Use colored ink for the background huh? I'm definately going to have to try that when next I can get to a store... Thanks for the advice.

Oh, I just had one question though. With the frisket, where do you put it on the picture? I mean, what is it really used for?

Great stuff! Usually when I blend watercolours, though, they tend to end up looking like sludge :/ Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but practice makes perfect, I suppose.

Wow, this is by far one of the most clear tutorials I've seen, it's actually made me think about touching those dreaded watercolours again lol. I felt like such a failure with traditional mediums I haven't used them in a long time. This actually makes me want to give them another go. Thank you so much!!

Wah thanks a lot for this tutorial! It's quite impressive! O_O
I have a little question, though, about acrylics. I have always been told acrylic dried very very fast, is it the same with liquid acrylic or do you use any other tips to make it dry more slowly? (perhaps the fact you put water on the sheet before helps?)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ecthelian In reply to OceanLord [2008-07-20 21:39:56 +0000 UTC]

The liquid acrylic that I have, you just treat it as regular watercolor. And yes, it actually dried slower than regular acrylic paint (spreading water over the paper also helps the color dries slower as well XDD).

Some here says you can also use rubber cement in case you cannot find frisket or masking fluid. It works the same :3

Wow, thank you so much for taking time to create this tutorial!!
I recently tried watercolours, but gave up as I have no clue how to use them T__T
You also mention many tools I had no idea about... I really want to do proper research now and try and find some classes ^__^ Thank you so much for reviving my desire to learn, you have no clue what this means to me... I was ready to give up watercolours for ever, despite my love for them ToT
Once again, awesome work, and it's great to have an insight into how you create your artwork x3

Great tutorial! I love your painting, it's so vibrant And I love your background.

Here's a tip on frisket I learnt in my watercolor class: if you dip a brush into liquid soap first then dip it into the frisket, then you won't ruin the brush and the frisket goes on smooth. You just have to re-dip the brush into soap every once in a while. The soap won't ruin the brush or the paper either (my teacher even used expensive brushes!)
