It would be nice if you could enter your Title, keywords, and description into the meta data and then have DA read that information, and fill it into the appropriate fields automatically. Do you know if DA will ever put this on their to-do list?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Elandria In reply to Vlue [2010-09-26 18:45:41 +0000 UTC]

DA does read basic exif data from the cameras but not from new pieces unless theres legacy information and not the keywords which would be nice to have but probably not high on devtechs things to do list

Help, please

I'm in Bridge and don't have all the menu choices you are showing in the tutorial image. Most importantly, I do not have the "Create Meta Data Template"

I'm in PS CS2...is that why?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Elandria In reply to FreeSpiritFotography [2009-08-25 05:41:37 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, ok this is what Adobe support suggests as the process for CS2....

"Quickly apply the same metadata to many files at
the same time by creating a metadata template.
Select the file in Bridge, and choose File > File Info.
Enter the metadata you want to apply to all of the
files; then click the arrow at the top right of the
panel and choose Save Metadata Template. To apply
the template to other files, choose Tools >
Append Metadata or Tools > Replace Metadata."

Does that help?

Awe, jeez! I feel bad now that you've gone through all that to help.

When I click File > File Info it brings up the window, and I can put my cursor in there as if to enter info, however it won't let me. And when choose Tools >
Append Metadata or Tools > Replace Metadata the menu pops up but it won't let me click it...it shows up but unclickable, if that makes sense. I don't know what it is.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write all that and help.

Elandria In reply to FreeSpiritFotography [2009-08-25 22:35:32 +0000 UTC]

Hmm.. the image you are altering the metadata on, its not read-only is it? thats the only thing I could think of that would stop you from changing, adding replacing metadata...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FreeSpiritFotography In reply to Elandria [2009-08-26 20:37:51 +0000 UTC]

Well, I checked all the images I've been trying to do this with and none were read-only. The good news is that I was finally able to get the metadata to work for me, but the real head scratcher is that I still can't use the Tools >
Append Metadata or Tools > Replace Metadata areas.

I'm ok with that. As long as I can use the main metadata section, no problem.

Thank you so much for your awesomeness

YOU ROCK

u know its way more simple to use irfanview and edit the exif with it...

Maybe so, but many people have photoshop and bridge readily available without the need for downloading/installing new software

I use Exifer

Am I totally blind? I have PS7, and I can't see how to do this... there's no Tools menu =\

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Elandria In reply to filemanager [2008-06-26 20:26:31 +0000 UTC]

Not heard of Exifer to be honest I know there are several programs out there though that work fab.

Make sure you're following the directions for Photoshop and not Bridge, they start about half way down the page after the Bridge info.
Sorry, I should have made the separation a bit clearer!

12monthsOFwinter [2008-02-21 07:34:54 +0000 UTC]

The tutorial as it currently reads implies that you need Photoshop or Bridge to edit iptc meta data which is not the case.
Other programs can do this as well, although editing exif data might be a different story.

Elandria In reply to 12monthsOFwinter [2008-02-21 12:28:05 +0000 UTC]

Well this tut is specifically for adobe products, and is by no means a definitive "how to" sorry if it reads that way

what file formats is EXIF data retained in?

I know it sticks with JPGs what about PNGs?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Elandria In reply to rdelw [2008-01-10 14:45:29 +0000 UTC]

I believe its most formats, I've just opened up a PNG in Bridge now and tried adding info and it didn't flag up any problems, seemed to save without an issue. I know EXIF was originally developed from TIFFs and though its not apparently a supported format all the file extensions work with ok from what I can see. Probably just needs a bit of experimentation

Schieben [2008-01-10 06:30:38 +0000 UTC]

You also forgot to mention the easiest way:
Right-Click on a file, pick summary, and enter the info in there (DA does preserve this, and I've been doing it for years to all my work)

If someone downloads your stuff off here and doesn't know about it, it's still in there when they repost it.

Elandria In reply to Schieben [2008-01-10 13:40:51 +0000 UTC]

Thats the EXIF data just from Explorer and whats the point of doing 1 image when stock providers need to do dozens at the same time all with the same information? lol it may be easy to do, but its tedious and time consuming when the applications we generally use do it in a few clicks.

Is photoshop bridge inbuilt with photoshop? How do I get to it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Elandria In reply to ladydetemps [2008-01-09 14:08:17 +0000 UTC]

On the top grey strip where you find details of what tool you are using to the right there is a small file icon with Br and a little magnifying glass, thats the short cut to Bridge if you have CS2 or CS3, in Photoshop 7 or CS the "file browser" short cut is located in the same place (file browser is part of Photoshop whilst Bridge is a seperate program(but packaged with Photoshop) and can be opened from your start menu as well)

Hope that helps
