This is an Adobe Photoshop turtorial.

I made this tutorial to help deviants protect their artwork. This will place a hidden copyright and information within your images' properties. This tutorial shows how to create an action so that you can add file info in one click.

To see this as an HTML tutorial visit [link]

To learn how to put this information on your files by the mass using Adobe Bridge, see my other tutorial: [link]

Please if you find this tutorial helpful so that others have a better chance of seeing it! I'm not looking for the pageviews, I just want to spread the word!

Notes:
  • This has been tested on JPG images.
  • If someone does a Save For Web on the image, then the copyright information will be lost.
  • This will not prevent ripping - it only helps you with a hidden signature

Just as long as you save it in the same way at the end, the information will still be hidden in the properties.

hey there, i might need some help... when i tried this first time, everything worked allright, but now whenever i try to do the same thing again, it doesnt work
when i switch the copyright status to "copyrighted" this message pops up every time: [link]

In translation it says something like "Unable to complete the command File Info because there is a problem with the module File Info." What am i doing wrong?

Hmmm.. I'm not sure what could go wrong. Perhaps try creating the action again?

I feel like an idiot asking this, but where's the actions panel thing? It would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Go to Window > Actions - the panel should pop up from that

Mmmmmmmmm no it doesn't. Could it have anything to do with the version of my Photoshop?

I'm not sure. A shortcut on mine says Alt+F9 - try that maybe?

Omg, how did I not discover this sooner?! THIS IS SO HELPFUL!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Would you mind if I were to share it on Tumblr? Both this and the Bridge tutorial, to help spread the word! If not, that's totally fine since I'm not one who usually share things on Tumblr unless it was REALLY big.

I don't understand how this works.

mydigitalmind In reply to Stormierene [2012-05-14 21:33:33 +0000 UTC]

It creates a hidden copyright on your photos, so if you view the properties, your info is there.

I only see one flaw to my shagrim after testing it out on one of my new pictures. If you 'right click' and 'save as' on the uploaded 'protected picture' the thief can still get the pic; of course being the smaller uploaded size with watermark. But the information is gone unfortunately when you right click the saved / stolen picture. Guess that's a website flaw for ya.

I'd like to learn how to 'shrink wrap' on DA. I've seen artist do it before but I can't find any tutorials on it. I'll keep on searching.

This is awesome for those that don't mind people hitting a download button though; and I am very happy that I stumbled over your tutorial! This is perfect for my freebie art!

MattsyKun [2011-01-25 00:08:07 +0000 UTC]

So if I do this, and upload it to dA, then no matter who saves it, edits it, and reposts it, it'll still be copywritten? Is that what I see?

Nonetheless... WHY DIDN"T I THINK OF THIS!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mydigitalmind In reply to MattsyKun [2011-01-25 15:55:48 +0000 UTC]

See my second bulleted note - as long as they do not save for web (or copy & paste) the info should stay.

This is such a great and easy-to-follow tutorial but I was wondering if you could help me?

I followed the directions and made an action and saved my picture (not for the web, but under save as...) but when I went to properties, none of the information showed up!

Any idea what to do?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mydigitalmind In reply to laurenarchambeault [2010-03-27 17:22:13 +0000 UTC]

Within the action panel, you can expand the actual parts of the action - do you see things filled in under "File Info" > "Set File info of current..." > list of everything you saved ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

laurenarchambeault In reply to mydigitalmind [2010-03-27 18:24:41 +0000 UTC]

Yepp, the Action shows the changes to Author, Description, Copyright Status, and Copyright Notice.

If I go to the saved image's properties, it only shows that it is Copyrighted and the Notice which says something along the lines of 'This image may not be reproduced,' etc.

The properties is missing the Author and Description: My name and the copyright year and name.

mydigitalmind In reply to laurenarchambeault [2010-03-27 20:13:09 +0000 UTC]

If you re-open the image in photoshop, does the info show? Not sure what could be wrong. Works every time for me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

laurenarchambeault In reply to mydigitalmind [2010-03-27 20:45:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, when I re open it the copyright symbol is on the title and everything, it just doesn't show up on the properties.
At least the copyright part shows up, I guess I'll just modify where I place the information.
Thanks anyhow!
