Description Googirl practice.
They're kind of complicated to color! I could use criticism and suggestions on how to make good googirls, if anyone's got some idears.

Man, rather than suggestions, I think I'm more inclined to take cues from this, because it's gorgeous. :'D

Some of the highlights on the bottom left of the puddle don't really seem like they match up with the shape they're on but it's really only notable up close?

I think you did a good job of rendering the translucent look; its important she look translucent rather than transparent, as she does need to be in a solid enough state to be considered a figure. The way the goo is running down her form gives a good sense that she's not completely solid.

There's not too much I can think of that would improve what you've already done. Rather, what do you feel is lacking? Maybe we can come up with something if we know what you're not satisfied with.

It's kind of hard to judge where the 'depth' of her body should be. Or, something like that. It's hard to explain! Has to do with what parts of Their body are touching other parts of their body (or the floor, a wall, or another person or creature), and how the light source should effect our depth perception...?
If the eyes have a hard time concentrating on the picture due to a lack of uniform composition, that's a bad thing. That's kind of how I see my googirl attempts. This one's satisfied me more than my other ones I've practice doodled, though.

I thought that maybe I could look at pictures of gelatin to get a better understanding of how the lighting should work. But, it's not quite the same kind of consistency of gel I wanna go for.

I understand what you're trying to say. I think where depth is concerned, you need to use darker hues of the same colors to show that there is more mass, pressure, density being applied in that area. She's not making contact with anything that isn't white, so if you had used a colored background or canvas, it might have looked different.

Maybe consider using your own hand or foot as an example. If you touch it and apply pressure with just the tip of your finger, the blood rushes away and the skin pigmentation gets lighter. You might consider using this as a visual idea for how her mass would shift, since she has no blood, organs, etc. You would be implying a shift in mass or density by color only.

Looking at jello, gelatin, and other types of these products is a good idea for lighting, but these usually are not good for contour, since they are packaged in a way that is not contoured, but angular.

I really like this though. It makes me want to try and goo girl.

Mm, yep. I should have used some background coloring, at least where she's sitting down. I'll keep that in mind for the next time!

I think that I get the notion of using darker tones to show density, hmm... but now I notice that I didn't use that trick very much, here. (I have, in another attempt at a googirl)
That's another point to make for next time.
