Description
I finished the bonus NES Metroid game on Metroid Zero Mission, last night, yey.I love that old game. <3 Zero Mission, however, mega overhauls everything that's awesome about Metroid, and gives ya weapons that didn't exist back in the NES version. That game's an awesome remake.
I guess that the NES Metroid had gotten me all tingly and inspired to draw this fanart of Samus.
I got really lazy on a lot of it xD haha, but, I mostly just wanted to draw Samus, so the bgs look like crap cuz I wasn't inspired to make those at all.
I used Super Smash Brothers Melee Samus for most of the posing. I hadn't drawn Samus for so many years now, I never really tried that much either, in the past. So, I needed a reference baaad, her armor's kinda complex, but, after I drew it, I could probably remember how to do it again if I try over and over.

I love love LOVE Metroid, and especially Samus. She is SUCH a bad-ass. You've definitely captured her well, and her Melee look is certainly an awesome reference to use. There are obviously other sources to use since then, but well... I felt her armor was a little plain in Other M. That said, that would leave the Metroid Prime series, probably mostly 1 or 2, as the best, most recent reference available. But really, they've changed her armor so much, you could probably work off of your own imagination and it would look fine. But yes, this looks awesome. I especially like that you chose to draw her without her helmet, in the main portion of this picture. Not only is she a bad-ass, but she's also a cutie.
But awesomely bad at the same time! She rocks so hard. *Sigh* Is it easy to tell that I'm a fan?
I DO like the background you drew in the first panel, even though you commented that you didn't really draw much of backgrounds. It looks like a 3D version of, maybe a room from Norfair. Or perhaps it's Crateria, because of the Zoomers on the walls? The frozen Metroid in the third panel is a nice touch, too. I highly encourage you to draw more Metroid fanart the next time you get a feeling!

Even if you used reference for it, oyu made her look so nice. It's awesome. Not only your anatomy is good, but you can draw mech suits as well. God bless your skillz. And I don't really think the bg looks that bad. Really, I myslef wouldn't be able something nowhere close to that. So don't worry about. Man, Samus sure looks badass there. I liek her expression, she's like omg-i'm-gonna-blow-up-yer-arse-in-pieces . Ireally like the bottom panel, as well. I find that one very dynamic.
Excellent work again man. Can't get enough of it

Geez you and your "I could draw circles around you blindfolded while doing the laundry, talking on the phone, AND doing a crossword puzzle at the same time" drawing skillz. Seriously, the lineart is fabulous. Even the light BGs are very good. I'll never understand how you do it. I could never get a lineart to get THAT neat. We need more colored ken arts ~_^

Hahaha! Pleeease. I can't even do all that if I wanted to, too lazy.
You so crazeh, gurl!
Ahh, colored stuff. I want to color more often. I need some sort of system, to get me moving faster... maybe I will try to just do basic colors for lots of pictures, first. Then later on at some point, detail them... that way, I can look forward to doing stuff, since I'd already started.
Now.. less talk, more do! >.< That's the problem with me.
Thanks, sis.

Yeahyuuuuh!
It's always neat to find a person who doesn't know what Samus actually looks like. Hehe! Cuz, many of us Metroid fans had the same shock. But, I found it out back when Metroid was still a fairly new game, back in the 80's.
But, yaaaah, not a robot, not even a man, but an a**kickin' WOMAYN!
With her hair up in a ponytail, she looks like FF 8 Quistis, but with her hair down, as seen in Metroid Fusion, she kinda looks like a blonde Sephiroth. o_0

Ken sure knows how to serve it up! Man, I rarely see any Samus fanart....and this is about the best one I've seen so far. The panels really show the active side of Samus, and that's good, 'cus one Samus picture just doesn't cut it.
That game is just so kick-@$$, that it is. I played it two times through, and never got bored with it. The remake is JUST PLAIN GENIUS. They give you a power-up that you would hardly use (the charge beam), but it's still awesome. The one bad thing about it....is that it takes forever to charge....sheesh. Oh well. It's still the best remake (and funnest gameboy game) out there. If there was anything better, it'd have to be made by God himself.

CRAPPIT ALL, I lost my comment to you when DA just decided to get all retarded on me. >_<
But, yah...
Thank you hun! The more Samus in our lives, the better! So long as it's quality stuff, not that Metroid Fusion junk. e_o Dude, what the heck was that?
I found the Charge beam to be utterly useless. xD That was until I got to the VERY last part of the game, then it was the only thing that was working on my enemy!
In "Metroid" tho, the Screw Attack OWNS, anything and everything that moves (except for the Metroid and Mother Brain). I used it to defeat Kraid, yesterday. xD Which was a shock, to me!

You used the Screw Attack to defeat Kraid? o.o I always go by a strategy. xD I'm sure you know what it is, so I'm not gonna carry on about it. Hehe. You probably thought it was easier and more fun using the Screw Attack. >3 Would it work on Ridley? Wait....that'd be hard to hit him, 'cus he's always flyin' around. *shrugs*

elazuls-core In reply to LigerNekoka [2004-09-03 01:21:18 +0000 UTC]
No no, do tell your strategy, because, honestly, I used the Screw Attack cuz it's so hard to hit Kraid with firepower, since it's spikes get in the way. >_>
The Screw Attack was an insane alternative to missile power. xD
I hadn't tried it on Ridley! But, it'd prolly work. But, since that guy is so easy (I beat Ridley today, with just the Ice Beam o_0), it's prolly not nessecary, haha.
I luff M:ZM. <3

Let's see here....if I remember correctly, I can probably tell you the strategy. O_o But if I forget, well, that's gonna be a problem for ya'. >> So anyways, I just started out by getting rid of the spikes, and once you elimate them, and I mean ONCE you elimate them, shoot his forehead with rockets, then shoot in his mouth as many times as you can with rockets. Once you hit him enough times, he'll bust that one platform (you know that), so kneel down to keep the lower spike he shoots from hitting you and making you fall off. Follow the same offensive stragety as before. I don't know about this last part....but here goes. Again, he'll bust another block once you hit him enough times. Use the spike platforms that he shoots from his belly to get up and shoot his head; but be quick, the platforms are temporary. Keep doing that, and you're sure to beat him! Just....try and avoid and/or shoot the spikes as much as you can to keep from lowering your health too much. -D I hope that helps. I haven't played that game in about a month or so. xD
Yaaaah! Zero Mission so kicks @$$! This morning in my homeroom class, I had a debate with some of the other kids. xD A couple were saying that Mario was the only good game series that Nintendo made, and I'm like...."BS!! Metroid so kicks Mario's butt" and they keep arguing with me. xD Well, I was lucky that some other kid agreed with me. I had a short debate about the same thing on the bus ride home. Again, another kid agreed with me while another argued. >>
P.S. Sorry I didn't get this to you sooner. My computer quit on me again, and I have to use my brother's. But thanks to my mom, I have my very own hard drive in it! So I don't have to use my bro's, and I can do anything I want with it. >3 Except crash it....That wouldn't be good. >>

Hahaha, oh no, I think that I confused you somehow whenever I was talking about a strat to beat Kraid.
I meant that I didn't have a strategy for fighting the NES Metroid version of Kraid, so I just Screw Attacked him. I did figure out how to beat this Kraid without the Screw Attack later, tho. Like a few days ago.
Thanks tho, sorry about confusing you.
Hehe! Go you, for sticking up for Metroid. Mario games are fun, Zelda games are beyond fun, and epic. Metroid games are thrilling and adventurous, then there is the Mario Kart series, SSBM, Donkey Kong games, there's many good Nintendo series, what are those kids smoking? Probably high on Playstation 2 fumes.
Oh, congrats on having your own computer now too, btw!

The money thing I can understand as being an obstacle for you, but, as for having a job.. blegh. Jobs mean less time playing your games. Boo to that! But, it does mean that you get money.. but less time to enjoy what you can buy. The world works in a screwed up way.
The NES Metroid is also in Metroid:Zero Mission. :woot: It's also in Metroid Prime, and I had been playing all these games in the last week. Hehe, so fun! I should also try to beat Metroid II for the first time, one day, as it just sits in my GB case, getting no play time.

Money for me is....tight. I only get it for my birthday, special jobs, and...uh...that's it. Hehe. Jobs are things that would waste your good gaming time, but....I'd be lucky to find a job. -/ Around where I live, there is hardly anything to scrape up. Except working at McDonald's or some ice cream shop (which isn't bad, but you have to do alot of things at once).
I'm currently playing Fusion. >3 One of my friends at school wanted to borrow Zero Misson (yes, I was cautious when making this decision) in turn to let me borrow Fusion. It was a go. Aww, don't start over, that game's not so hard to get around in. In fact, one thing that many people didn't seem to like about Fusion (By 'many people', I mean me and prolly someone else I don't know) was that the game pretty much tells you where to go next, every now and then, taking out a lot of the fun exploration that older Metroid games had.
I know that in ZM, that also happens, but, there's much more exploring to do, the game doesn't feel as linear as Fusion did, although ZM is still pretty much on a set path as well.
Trading games with people can get kinda... weird. You tend to miss your baby when it's in someone else's care, and worry if you'll see it again... but, I liked giving a chance to let someone else share the fun experiences I used to have with my games.
Eww, don't work at McDonalds. Hehe! One thing that I was pretty adamant about, when I was first looking for work ages ago, was that I wouldn't work at a fast food restaurant. I dunno why, but, it doesn't seem ... right. For some reason. You deserve to have a nicer job, anyway. But, if you don't have to work yet, don't do it, I say, muahahaa!

LigerNekoka In reply to elazuls-core [2004-09-11 03:52:03 +0000 UTC]
Yah. Fusion is on a set path, alright. But must of the graphics and movement are better than Zero Misson. o_o I was tryin' to do that "bouncing off the walls" little tricky trick today. It's difficult, 'cus you have to perfectly syncronize the D-pad and the A button, as well as being at the right place to "bounce". It's fun once you get it, tho'. >D Zero Mission was always fun to explore....Killing all those monsters never got old. xD They just kept on going and going and going and going until I actually found out where to go.
Working at fast food things sure does sound disgusting to me. I'd rather not work there, either. But if I have no choice, I have no choice. I've gotta make money somehow. -/ I'll probably work at that ice cream shop in town. >> Maybe get free ice cream. Muahaha. Either that or I could just not work altogether and leech money off my mom.
