I had this done last week but wanted to get the sentry concepts done to put out at the same time...then took a week to get round to them.A simple metal hardhat with a logo since the Engineer is rather lacking other hard hats. This one has a bit of his past on it since his bio mentions "ten years as a roughneck in the west Texas oilfields".
The shotgun is part vintage power drill and part gun and has gotten the most development.

The pistol is a Browing 1922 combined with elements of a captive bolt pistol. I may ditch it and have some ideas for a possible wrangler.

The Wrench is a sucker rod wrench and will accompany "the Mule" whatever happens to the rest of the gear since both share a point of inspiration.

HNG! I love these weapons. I really hope they make an appearance because HOLYSHIT WOW. The detail and design look kinda retro futuristic and bring to mind Star Wars. 83

I like the pistol, for what it's worth! Engie needs a new pistol that's more than a simple reskin, methinks!

I really like the wrench, but I think the shotgun and pistol need some work. In my opinion, you need to add some more stuff to them in order to make them different from other guns. Maybe add a container for oil on either one or something that looks like the piston of an oil refinery. Also, you could design a container-like item for the Engineer (like a jarate replacement) that contains oil. Another thing, redesign the hat so it doesn't look like the Aperture Labs Hard Hat or the Lo-Fi Longwave. Try something that makes it look like an oil refinery or something that uses oil and not like a hardhat.
One last thing, have you thought up what stats you would give these weapons? I know Valve decides what the stats for weapons are, but I would like to hear what they are and if you have no ideas, I can think up a couple of ideas.

The problem with overt use of oil in the designs is that it immediately starts feeling like Pyro gear, as was the case with some early prototypes that I never bothered testing in game. That goes for the idea of an oil can too. What's more, while often suggested out there, an oil can is something that seems incredibly boring to actually make compared to all the other equipment types available, and would also be out of my power to fully test.
The pistol is going to be replaced with a wrangler type thing so that won't get any more work. The shotgun will probably get some more tweaks but otherwise the overall level of detail is near the limits of what I'm comfortable with. I'll look into whether what's there can be tweaked to push the distinctiveness.
I don't really agree with a hat needing true distinctiveness since it serves no gameplay purpose - I'd rather something that fits what it occupancies than looks truly unique on it's own. Also giving the Spy a variety of brimmed hats but then not giving the Engineer a selection of hardhats of his own seems a bit odd to me. Sticking an oil refinery on his head would also mean a hat with even more in common with the Lo-fi since it would be another hat with a small building on it...
Finally, no, I've not considered any stats. I never put any serious thought into them in regards to what I make since they are impossible for me to test and would be completely out of my hands anyway.

Screw hats! Guns are where it's at. (also I'm pretty clueless when it comes to hats...how do people keep thinking up new ones...)
