The most important tip I could ever give towards drawing/creating good comics is to read comics. Good, bad, mediocre, read them all and learn from them.

Webcomics I love :: Nimona | Monsieur Charlatan | Hemlock | Prague Race | Lost Nightmare

tumblr version. I'm happy to do more tutorials if this helps anyone and they'd like more tips in a certain area ^^

Thank you so much for sharing this!
I've had a comic class this year but our teacher wanted to point out mistakes as we made them instead of telling us about rules and general panel management first - so I missed a lot of things I didn't happen to handle in my own work.
I love the part about pacing. I never thought of that and I didn't really notice a pattern going on with panel sizes before (then again I'm not a big comic reader, I'm just recently getting interested :3 and I'm SO going to check out the webcomics you linked!).
I also like that this is not a huge load of information and not too technical. And on top of that, the design for the whole thing is simple, classy and well readable. I think this deserves more visibility - why not share it in some groups about comics and/or tutorials?

Best way to improve at something is to study it *u* ie. wanna be a good director? Watch lots of films, etc.
I'm really sorry you had a lame teacher ): if you're interested, I can link you to a great PDF by a proper comic artist who explains pacing, paneling and picking content very well, and super coherently.

Someone picked up on an error in the pacing section that I have been too lazy to correct. Large panels (ie. full page panels, say), depending on content can work as a stopper, or a way to quickly push the story on. Ie. an explosion may slow it down because it's a final-scenario/ending event (or a good cliff hanger). A page picture of a room full of details or a new setting will slow the pace down, but a page dedicated to punching a chump in the face will speed it up. There are exceptions to every rule so yeah, but as a general rule of thumb, that still works.

I've had one group approach me to feature it, so I've allowed them to add it, but I don't really know many groups? It's have 5000+ notes on tumblr tho which is super surprising, but also nice!

Oh man, I'm psyched your gonna check out some webcomics! I can't even pick one to really recommend you read most. Nimona is near completion, so that's nice and tidy. Hemlock hasn't been updated in ages but is still very nice (esp. for a black and white comic), my only real fault with it is that it relies on a lot on close ups that don't move the story along, more like close ups for the sake of close ups? I adore Monsieur Charlatan, gorgeous art, great story! Lost Nightmare hasn't really got going yet but has cute art. Prague Race is a great comic to prove the people who don't think traditional art works well in comics that they're wrong, also rad art and rad story!

You bet
I'm very interested in that PDF - I can learn more by observing comics if I know what to look for!
Thank you for pointing out those exceptions. I'm becoming more and more interested in storytelling.
About groups, I usually just type what I need here and see if I like any of them (content and/or management).
Again, thanks for sharing! I'll probably start with Monsieur Charlatan

Here you go! www.ebook3000.com/Scott-Mcclou… If I remember right, the first download link works best.

I had no idea you could search groups! This is brilliant! Thank you <33

Good choice D!
