I had this idea a while ago when some staff member asked for widget ideas, and have sort of forgotten about it. But the recent news article by =Pickley sparked the idea back to life and I thought I'd illustrate the idea.So basically, if you install this widget, anyone who comes to your page will see the rooms you're in at that moment. People can then click on the room links to open a new tab to the chat page of that room.
You can edit the widget to not include rooms that are -join for guests (like back rooms that are private) or you can list rooms that you don't want to show up that you might be in. You can also toggle it to show how long you've been online and how long you've been idle (since an idle person is no fun to try and chat with), then you have your normal description textbox below that.
There might be other ideas for how to customize the options, but that's the gist of it right there. I think something like that would get more people to try the chat service and encourage people to use it more, along with letting people communicate better. Any other ideas or suggestions?

Granted this is purely concept, BUT I MUST KNOW REGARDLESS. I assume it would just hide the widget if you weren't in any chats?

I'm thinking it would just go blank, either the content in the widget, or the widget it's self. But it could also do snazzy things, like list the chats you were last in, and how long ago, or something like that.

Yup - letting people know that dA even has chat rooms is a pretty obvious benefit here, along with giving people easy access to see where their friends are.

If you don't chat at all, yeah this might not appeal to you, but it would be good for the people that don't even know that dA has chat rooms.

This is PERFECT. This is exactly what all DA and many of the pro artists need; so many people have never chatted, are too scared to send notes, but desperately want to hang with their favorite artists. This could really bring those more hesitant people to finally take a step forward and stop lurking so damn much!
This is also generally awesome for helping friends coordinate times and locations of whatever get-togethers they might want to have, since I know so many have varied messengers.
I really hope this gets considered.

Yeah true, but I was thinking this would be more useful to non-chat users that come across their friends page. They would see the rooms the user is in and might decide to join, having never joined before.
