Description A little extra bit for my comic, Snap Crackle Pop.

This may turn into the new header for my website. There's another version with lower saturation here: [link] Any preference as to which one should go on the website?

I think I did an all right job with my markers this time. While I'm still not any kind of digital colorist, I'm happier with the results I'm getting with the markers this time around.

Omg, Mordak with his little pirate hat! He tries to be all angry and tough but he's just ADORABLE!
I think I like the more coloured one - really tough decision though.
And sexy corset-dress is sexy.

I know! Cacti in hats, who'd have known?

I did wind up going with the brighter version on the new site layout, so thanks for the vote! And yeah, I can't help it, I'm a sucker for period dresses.

He doesn't seem very approachable so I think that I'll just stand in my corner and marvel and his perfectly proportioned piggy angry cuteness.

Fantastic Artwork, I'm seriously jelous of your skill.

Use the saturated version for the web, more screen friendly colours. Most people don't have colour calibrated screens, so can't see colours as intended anyway, unlike digital artists who require such things. But strong saturations get around any issue by making everything bright.

Good luck with website!

This is great! You truly are great with markers, FAR better than I would ever be! The lower saturated one gives it that old, worn out effect, but either are lovely!

Are you well versed with colored pencils? Your marker skills abound anything I could ever accomplish, are your pencil skills just as amazing?

elephantblue In reply to thing1thatiam [2011-08-31 07:04:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Eh, my pencils aren't that great. I gave up on pencils a while ago. That Buddha Finn drawing I did, the one that used to be the header for the SCP site, was in colored pencils, as well as all the "bizarre pinups" I did of the women with the animal heads. I dunno though, they frustrated me. I still find paints to be my favorite method of coloring a thing.

Dang, I'm sorry to hear that pencils weren't your thing. You do a great job with paints and markers, though! Your work never ceases to amaze! ^_^

I was asking because I just recently became the owner of some really good Prismacolor pencils that I'll probably never use because I simply don't know how to use them / have anything of my work to actually color. :Z Do you think your sister would like them? Or you would like them just in case you'd like to have a go at them again?

elephantblue In reply to thing1thatiam [2011-09-03 04:09:40 +0000 UTC]

Aw, well that's sweet of you! Prismas are the best, for sure. I have to be honest, though, I don't see myself going back to them any time soon. I was never very good with them, you see. Maybe my sister would, I'll ask her!

thing1thatiam In reply to elephantblue [2011-09-03 05:11:09 +0000 UTC]

Ah, we have this in common. ^_^ I never really graduated from Crayola colored pencils, anything beyond that is above my skill. Yes, please do ask her when you get the chance! They're snuggly tucked away in a drawer for now, quietly weeping for a loving owner. I had hoped I would be that person, yet I fear I may never use them! Plus I've got like, 15 other hobbies to catch up on...lol

Unlike me who loves using mathematics to colour things in. matrix transforms + bezier tuples + fill equations = great art.

Pencils never seem to fill anything with enough brightness and the horrors of being 8 and trying to make something look good using cheap pencils has killed any enthusiasm. Paint is too messy and markers seem to go through my thin printer paper.

There must be an art to non-digital art.

elephantblue In reply to doctormo [2011-08-31 09:19:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, one of the tricks is using good materials. Using those awful, super dry colored pencils they give you in school is murder. I used Prismacolors, which were practically juicy, and they gave you rich, thick colors that really jumped off the page if you used them right. Paint can be messy, but hey, no mess, no freedom, no freedom, no art! I think mess can be half the joy of a good piece sometimes. As for thin printer paper, you'd never use that for a real piece if you were going to use good markers -- Bristol paper or thick drawing paper holds the ink well. Of course, if you have a mouse and a screen and the inclination, all that other stuff isn't really necessary. All different ways of making it happen are great.

Thanks for the tips, I'm the only one who goes to Dr. Sketches (art event) with a laptop. But I did learn some useful techniques from real artists, like not using perfect erasing too much.

You know, I like both a LOT, but I say put up the brighter version as your header. The comic itself is bright and loud and fun.

You did an amazing job! Swashbuckling Finn is totally swoonworthy (you know, for a dragon), and Harry's back! Love the barnacles and the sweeping clouds. That's something I wouldn't've done in PS, and it adds a real sense of distance and movement to the whole schmeer.

Oh Adam, you don't know what yer in for!

elephantblue In reply to lily-fox [2011-08-31 02:31:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I'm really pleased you like it! I may do more with this in the future, if I do another book or if I do more with merch or whatnot, so who knows, maybe a better PS version might still be on the menu, but I'm glad this one didn't stink.

Thanks for the advice.
