Description As usual, the story to this painting is ambiguous. Is she escaping the clutches of the nefarious Tiki Jack, or creeping in to assassinate him? I had a lot of fun with this one.

All the same, I see all these other incredible digital pieces and find myself feeling like I did this with dull crayons on construction paper. I know now that I'm way past learning my way around Photoshop, so I can only hope to get good enough at painting that I can hold up my head next to these great digital artists.

On canvas with acrylics.

I wouldn't worry about the lack of photoshop in your work, traditional forms have their own charm that a lot of digital art lacks. Sadly I've gone down the digital path too much and when I last picked up a brush and had a go at canvas again I quickly realised I'd really lost the knack for it. I say keep it up and don't look back.

Thanks a bunch! It's just a completely different way of doing art, but it would be nice if I had the capacity to learn both with any level of discipline.

So much fun to be had here. I love the entertaining ambiguity of it all. I do dearly WANT to know what's going on, though.

I would love to see what you do with illustrator, actually, since your painting style is more stylized and less blended, more about flat color than gradated shades and colors...
Er... that's not a dig at your painting style, this is really lovely, as are all the ones in this series, I'm just noticing a trend and recommending a program that seems to suit it.

Thanks for the tip! I think my problem is just that I'm oddly old fashioned, and have trouble learning about computer programs. My big lament is that I want do do those fabulous gradated shades and spectacular lighting and coloring, but it's quite difficult, and so my paintings look flat as a result.

Maybe some day I'll get the hang of it.

nono, I like the flat color look to these paintings, it's very graphic and fun! Matches the gorgeously stylized shapes of your characters especially.

(playing with the pen tool in photoshop can give you a nice intro to vectoring, but Illustrator is the advanced full-options version for vectors. but I feel ya on the learning curve re:digital, no worries. I was just throwing out a suggestion.)

You wield acrylics very nicely! I prefer using them and ultimately prefer the look of them to all the digital stuff. It looks great! And I love the ambiguous story behind it! Now, the viewer has to come up with their own.

I'm so glad you dig it! My goal is to become at least as proficient with acrylics as others can be with Photoshop. We'll see, maybe in a few years.

I'm always interested to hear what people come up with for what's behind a painting.

It does work that way, I gave you bonus points for painting it. I'm sure lots of other people have that little check box in their head that says "This was made with real paint +10 points of cool"
