So, if Sonic can only have one power ring at a time in SatAM, how did he manage to pull 3 out of his backpack and save himself from the roboticizer in Doomsday Project?With plot device corrected, here's how things could have turned out.
I guess I just have a morbid fascination with the roboticizer.

I'm not too happy with how this came out, actually. I've been using different paper lately, and colored pencil keeps coming out really grainy. It's especially noticeable in darker areas, like the background. Maybe I should just go back to using smoother paper.

I get what you mean about the grainy, but the darkness still comes off as darkness; it works. All the coloring works wonderfully in this.Β The shine on the metal looks great *w* and the detail of circuits running up his organic body... brrr. (and I totally get if you have a fascination with the roboticizer, that whole transformation horror theme captures me too.)Β
But most of all, I love Sonic's expression (body and face), the desperate struggle. Like it's the moment he realizes this isn't enough power, but he's not even thinking of just giving up.Β

The circuits are a thing that I just really like including in a roboticization pic because I feel like it's the best way for me to really show the transformation, as opposed to just a glowy light that implies a transformation.
And I do really enjoy seeing people's interpretation of Sonic's expression because I'm not actually sure what exactly I was trying to show. That it's a bit open for interpretation I think is encouraging.

heh...plotholes. I always wondered where he got three at once myself. Maybe they were storing them up for use, considering they were 'going up against Doomsday' (To quote Sonic himself). *shrug*

Who doesn't? It's nightmare fuel unleaded. Losing your free will and be used as a drone to hurt your loved ones should be right next to some primal fears.
I can't believe I haven't seen any of your stuff before! This is absolutely awesome. The style is spot on, and I love the coloring - it gives a "dark" impression despite the fact there's technically so much light and soft colors in it. Add the emotion and you had me at first glance. I also like the detail of the white strips of his shoes matched by the segmented bits on his feet roboticized.
Also, I don't mind the grained paper, really. I don't mind seeing that a drawing is, in fact, a drawing. I think it adds to the appeal for me, honestly. I see what you mean about the darker areas, but I think the effect of the darkness comes across OK anyway.

I always figured they would save up the rings durring times when they didn't need them...in case he happened to need more than one at some point. (though there are some inconsistancies in that theory as well (case in point, when Bunnie says, "but there won't be another ring for 24 hours!" and then Sonic says "Then I'll just have to take on ro'butt'nik without one!"))
But I figure, they knew they had a huge fight on their hands with Doomsday, so maybe they made sure to save up the rings?

Satam really never gave insight on how Sonic got 3 at once in the first place.
While I'm not totally against the way Sonic got out of that mess, I wish the writers would have explained how Sonic got 3 at once in the first place.
It sorta looks like a Deus ex machina style escape.
I dunno, just a thought.

they knew they might need more power so they save up those 3 days

This scene will actually be in my SATam based comic, only he ends up going super. But within the comic he actually is completely roboticized once. Overall though I really like this picture, you have some serious talent with colored pencils!

I don't recall it ever being a rule that Sonic could only carry one ring at a time O.o Just that a ring is only formed once every 12/24 hours (depending on which ep states it). Also, Sonic once pulled out two rings while on the same mission in another episode, so... XD
Anyway, despite the graininess, I like this. The shading and detail of the legs are probably my favorite part. What sort of pencils do you use? Have you tried applying a colorless blender to see if you can't smooth the coloring out a bit more? Anyway, I love the fact you've chosen a more traditional SatAM-esque robian design for Sonic's legs (Not that I don't like Archie's rendition of Mecha!).
I too have a fascination with roboticization by the way XD I'd love to see you draw a fully roboticized Sonic in this style.
