right now is holding a contest for "futuristic" weapons and this is my entry.the blade is a technological marvel, forged using the latest advancements in nano-tech bio-machines and a newly discovered carbon and steel crystalline alloy.
At its thickest the blade is only slghtly thicker than a sheet of paper and the edge is only a single atom thick, literally as sharp as physically possible. and yet the blade has the hardness of diamond and the strength of high grade steel. due to the crystalline nature of the alloy the blade is translucent and nearly invissible to the eye.
even more advanced is the Saya (scabbard) which contains the same nano-tech bio-machines innitally used to forge the blade. whenever the blade is sheathed the machines go to work repairing and sharpening the blade ensuring that it will be in top condition when next it is drawn. should the blade ever be broken replacing the shards in the Saya will allow the blade to be completely reforged.

Nerds have become a lot cooler in the past ten years or so, you notice? Everybody seems to appreciate the smart ones now because we're advancing beyond a point where fists and big sticks won't get everything done anymore.
