EDIT: In Step 25, I forgot to mention that I colored in some shades in her skin with C3. Sorry about that!

I know I don't color with Copics very well yet, but I decided I might as well show you how I do. Ha ha, I should have left the girl's hair pink... it looked better like that, in my opinion. I also forgot to include that I used black Sakura Micron Pigment Liners too! Sorry if the tutorial doesn't help much. I hope it helps and that you enjoy it anyway!

Here is the actual deviation if you'd like to see the finished product!

I think you did a great job! But then again I have no Copic Marker, or any marker, coloring experience whatsoever so... yeah.

Anyway, I have a question: when you do the shading and stuff, do you have to wait for the layer of color underneath to dry first before you apply the new color on top?
I recently got some Copic Markers and I don't want to ruin them by messing up.

ember-snow In reply to Pure-Amazement [2011-11-11 08:56:27 +0000 UTC]

Aww, thank you very much.

If I apply a dark color, hoping to blend it out with a lighter color on top, then no, I don't usually wait for it to dry. When it dries, it's a bit more difficult to blend, so it's best to go over it with a lighter color when it's still wet. ^^ Hope that helps you a bit, and good luck with your coloring~!

I get mine at local craft and art stores, such as Art Media, Michael's, and Creative Crafts. You can also find them online at www.dickblick.com and other websites. Just Google-search "Copic markers" and "Sakura Micron Pigment Liners."

oh and also- could you maybe make a tutorial on how to colour in skin in paint tool sai ^^' If you even do that- because I'm very new in colouring and I would really like some help o.o and I like how you colour skin But sadly I don't have copic markers... but I have sai.

ember-snow In reply to TranquilDisturbance [2011-06-06 02:47:54 +0000 UTC]

If I do, it will probably be a video tutorial. Those take a lot less time, so the next time that I can sit down and draw someone and color them, I'll make a tutorial on skin (I love coloring skin, ha ha). But I don't know when that will be. Maybe sometime during the summer. I'm going to be busy with drawing during the summer. Got lots of stuff I want to do/finish.

ember-snow In reply to AnoNeko [2011-05-08 08:06:41 +0000 UTC]

Me too! xD Most of them I've collected over time from Christmas and birthdays and stuff. Some of them I bought on my own with gift cards that I've gotten and for school.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnoNeko In reply to ember-snow [2011-05-12 05:40:15 +0000 UTC]

Lol. xD Where do you buy them at? I can't find them anywhere in stores where I live.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ember-snow In reply to AnoNeko [2011-05-12 05:41:07 +0000 UTC]

I have a local art store that sells them. Right now, I'm away from home though, for college. But my college bookstore and local craft store sells them too.

AnoNeko In reply to ember-snow [2011-05-12 06:35:30 +0000 UTC]

Darn! I can't seem to find copics markers anywhere, let alone afford them XO
And photoshop.... I'll never be able to get that cause it's even more expensive.....

Luckily gimps free!! Combine with with a bamboo tablet pen and maybe i might have a shot here... xD

lol, sry if i got off topic ^^" .... You really are skilled in shading with markers.... I love how you did the highlights and shadows. ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ember-snow In reply to AnoNeko [2011-05-12 07:27:29 +0000 UTC]

You can always buy them online, though you'll have to pay for shipping. So you should probably save up and buy in bulk to save on that.
Yeah, art stuff is so expensive, sadly!

I've never tried that. Is it good?

Ha ha, no, that is totally fine. ^^ I don't mind if conversations get off topic. That's how they generally are. And thank you very much!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnoNeko In reply to ember-snow [2011-05-12 22:59:35 +0000 UTC]

Okay, you're right. I'll buy in bulk!! xD
It'll take me a while to save the money anyway. ^^

Oh my lord, you don't know what Gimp is?! Ever heard of Photoshop? Well, Gimp is a completely free version of photoshop that can be downloaded online! You should go download it now. xD
Well, maybe not since you're soo amazing with markers. ^^

Thanks for the advice ember-snow!!

ember-snow In reply to AnoNeko [2011-05-13 20:05:47 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! And it will give you a lot of colors to start out and practice with.

Seriouslyyy? That is pretty cool. xD I don't really need it though, because I have Photoshop and Paint Tool SAI (and those pretty much get the job done).

Aw, thank you. C: And you're welcome!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnoNeko In reply to ember-snow [2011-05-14 00:35:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, just so long as the refills aren't too expensive. xD

Hey umm, I have a question! Like, there's a lot of people who say they have photoshop and I doubt all of them pay for it.... lul..

So, by any chance is there a way to download it for free?????!!!!! Not a trail version that expires after a month, I mean really download it for free???

God I hope soo.....

Tutorials on fashion design, hm? I don't know; fashion design varies from person to person--especially the drawing and coloring styles. Besides, I'm still learning how to do fashion illustration. Sorry.

Can you make a tutorial on just skin color?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ember-snow In reply to RitzNinja [2011-04-08 05:14:10 +0000 UTC]

If I did, I don't know what else I would put in it. My coloring process basically goes like it does in this tutorial, during the first few steps that explain which colors to lay on first and where to color them. Could you please tell me what in addition you are looking for?

After reading the last step to this tutorial I suddenly remembered this silver gel pen I left in my room. I had no entire clue how I could use the gel pen when I lacked black paper but thanks to this tut. I'll be able to make use of it someday!

Yeah, it's great for adding details to clothing and stuff. For silver, you could draw metal chains or something!

Um, I've never tried Promarkers... So I would not know. But if they are alcohol-based markers (like Sharpies), I would assume you could try the same technique.
