EDIT: In Step 25, I forgot to mention that I colored in some shades in her skin with C3. Sorry about that!

I know I don't color with Copics very well yet, but I decided I might as well show you how I do. Ha ha, I should have left the girl's hair pink... it looked better like that, in my opinion. I also forgot to include that I used black Sakura Micron Pigment Liners too! Sorry if the tutorial doesn't help much. I hope it helps and that you enjoy it anyway!

Here is the actual deviation if you'd like to see the finished product!

Don't get discouraged. You have to start somewhere. That's how you improve. Just keep practicing, try new things, and experiment with different techniques to discover what you like doing best. Keep it up; the only thing you can do is get better from here on out.

Just keep it up. And thank you. It took me 14 years to get where I am now. And I'm still learning. So just be patient and enjoy the process of improving and experimenting.

I love how you did this. I've looked at a few other copic tutorials and this one was one of the eaisest to understand!

I'm glad. I don't really use technical terms or difficult processes, because I don't think I'm that advanced in coloring yet. So I'm glad it's easy to understand.

You...you have...a tutorial...*angels start singing* DO YOU KNOW HOW HAPPY THIS MAKES ME. I'M SO HAPPY I FORGOT A QUESTION MARK IN THAT LAST SENTENCE. HOMIGAD.
I'm not even exaggerating right now. I know you always downplay how good your art is, but...you're amazing. So much of my artistic inspiration comes from watching you draw and looking at your end results. You make me want to be a better artist. So when I saw your tutorials folder I had an uber-freakout. xD;
Luff you dollface <3

YAY FOR FORGETTING ABOUT QUESTION MARKS!

But... it's not? I forgot how fun Copic markers were. I should use them more. Haven't been drawing much lately. I'm glad I can make you want to be a better artist! You are improving at an alarmingly fast rate, which is super amazing considering it took me... uh... 14 years to get where I am? D: I'm a slow learner, har har. I hope my tutorials are helpful. I'm not too great at making them.

Thankyou for the great tutorial! You've really blown me away on how you've used the Copics here, I'll be sure to encorporate these techniques into my own future works.
I've only very recently started using Copics and need as much practise as I can get.
Question: For the hair, does it matter if you use Copic Original or is it preferred to use Sketch?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ember-snow In reply to Becza [2010-07-27 19:11:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you and you're welcome. Copic sketch is a lot nicer for hair, since it's got the brush tip and can make strokes that will represent hair.

Becza In reply to ember-snow [2010-07-28 10:14:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I thought so. I've got a few Earth colour Copics in Sketch so that's good for brown hair. Thanks for clarifying.

What do you prefer watercolor or copic markers?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ember-snow In reply to Mystl [2010-06-21 08:02:55 +0000 UTC]

Definitely Copics. Watercolors are harder to use for me.

wow this would be GREAT for my next attempt on the evil copic markers...i'm always nervous when coloring with these markers especially the face area...i tend to mess up the whole thing with one fateful wrong move. Boo for meh DX

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ember-snow In reply to baroquegothik [2009-11-30 11:58:16 +0000 UTC]

Copics are quite permanent, so it is scary to color with them. But they can be really fun too. Maybe you should try drawing a quick picture and then practice coloring on it until you get the hang of it.

Pocky66 In reply to ??? [2009-05-06 03:20:00 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I needed this tutorial so badly! (I'm a beginner.) People were telling me, "Start with the darker color first." Other people would tell me, "Start with the lightest color first." I can finally use my markers that have been sitting on my desk all alone for ages! I was getting tired of using dull colored-pencils.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ember-snow In reply to Pocky66 [2009-05-06 05:09:51 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! I'm glad it could help!

Just a tip though: with skin colors, it's usually alright to start with the darkest color first. But keep in mind that if you start with a dark color (like green), and then go over it with a light color (like yellow), the tip of the light colored marker might get stained by the darker color. Be careful.
