I hate to ask but how is it going with my model? *feels bad for asking*

I haven't started it yet... I have 3 more models to do before I get to yours. My commission queue is here .

No need to rush, I'm pretty patient.

Thank you very much!!!
Now I get the idea how it works now to actually try making one.
I am using version 3 though... so I am stuck with old ones and don't have that much convienient options to choose.
I guess I could maybe made it till finishing the shape but can't do the UV mapping since I don't think I have that option to choose from like in the tutorial. (^ ^")

Hmm... Can you download Meta 4? That's the version I use, and it's free.

xxSoulsealerxx In reply to EmeraldTechnopath [2015-06-30 02:23:25 +0000 UTC]
I already have the free version of meta 4 installed...
Problem is that you can't convert files or export files with the unregistered version... >_>
I had to use meta LE to change the files into x files and it can't convert meta 4's files...

EmeraldTechnopath In reply to xxSoulsealerxx [2015-06-30 11:41:05 +0000 UTC]
You can change Meta 4 files into LE compatible files! When you save the file, instead of saving it as a regular Meta file, open the drop-down list and pick, "Metasequoia object Ver2.2 compatible". Then you can open it in Meta LE.

Alright, I will try it out later and see if I can do that. 0w0
It would be nice if we could convert directly though.

Yea... but the full version of Meta is flipping expensive. I don't think the convenience is worth that much.

I just test out trying to save it into 2.2 in meta4 and it works!
I am an idoit for not figuring that out, thanks mate.

Aw, don't worry. It took me a while to figure out. You're welcome.

Yes, it's expensive alright. >_>
Though I think they can import and export physics, rig and bone with the new version?

Is there going to be another tutorial where you map the rest of the ear?
π: 0 β©: 1
EmeraldTechnopath In reply to airflamesred [2015-06-28 22:31:58 +0000 UTC]
Nah. You can use the same technique to map the other side, if you need to! Just select the opposite side of the ear and follow the same steps.

There is a cool button that can save you the time of cloning and repositioning.
Instead select the whole left or right (you choose one side not both)... make sure your selection is completey for that side and that the middle yellow line has no verts selected.
Then delete the selected verts. then you right click on the object (in the object pannel) and click "mirror separated."
This should perefctly mirror the object to the left (or right if you choose to delete the right side).

EmeraldTechnopath In reply to LuluKya [2015-06-28 17:01:03 +0000 UTC]
I actually don't have to re-position my cloned objects; there's an option in the Clone panel to mirror it symmetrically. But thanks for the advice!

Oh that was what I was talking about to begin with XD I've modeled wuite a lot of stuff in Metasequoia 4 for a while ^u^
It's just you got to make sure to delete a sideΒ so you don;t have overlapping mesh But I'm sure you knew that
π: 0 β©: 1
EmeraldTechnopath In reply to LuluKya [2015-06-28 18:06:07 +0000 UTC]
In the case of the ear, the symmetry is so far apart that there's no overlapping mesh. I see what you mean for cloning bigger objects, though.

LuluKya In reply to EmeraldTechnopath [2015-06-28 19:24:58 +0000 UTC]
Oh, you know what. This whole time, I thought the ears and the head mesh were 1 object.
So i thought you were mirroring the head and the ears together XD
But I realized you were mirroring just the ears cause it was it's own obj. >e> I need to start reading these things more slowly XD
Hmmm a tip would give when planning to make the ears like this is -
If the hair is covering the connection from the head to the ears. then go for and do it this way.
However, If you can clearly see the head (like the example you show). Then I would not suggest modeling the ears in a separate obj. then lodging them into the head. It would give off a weird not-so-appealing look to it when shaders are on it. Instead I would suggest to work with your wirframe so that you can accommodate your desired ear shaped to be modeled along with the head.
THen with that method you would have to delete one whole side and mirror ^e^
I want say your method is wrong. It's fairly correct depending on the model. But some might want a smooth connection between the head and ears and this method wouldn't be the solution ^p^
I kind of wentΒ off topic I think... But I hope you understand what I'm teachin'

EmeraldTechnopath In reply to LuluKya [2015-06-28 19:37:02 +0000 UTC]
Yep, I get it. I could also probably use Magnet tool to shape the connection between the head and ears to make it smooth... Don't know how easy that would be, though... Thanks for the advice!

I know, right? I look at Blender and it just looks so complicated... Whereas with Meta you can open it up as a beginner and learn how to make simple stuff within minutes. ^^

Yep. Hopefully I'll be able to use blender soon. I'm supposed to get classes for 3d modeling in July. If You can use blender, I guess you can use it all. But I do prefer Meta.
