Misty will NEVER come back
she has absolutely no reason to come back

yeah, yeah yeah.
I GET IT!

Don't need to state the obvious, sheesh.
Go whine somewhere else.

Not whining, especially when I if anything hate whiners, especially those who claim "safe spaces" on college campuses. I'm in fact trying to take action, and that person you are showcasing is one of my friends. I even helped her get petition signatories for her online petition. If I were whining, I wouldn't be determined to do something and actually taking actions to ensure it. Do I realize it's difficult? Sure. But on the other hand, even gaining American independence from Great Britain was no easy effort and had everything against it, yet we perservered. Heck, the media also said Trump wouldn't win the presidency, look where he is now (and considering you actually were gloating about how Trump won, and I am glad that Trump won over that monster Hillary Clinton, we can both agree there at least even if we ignore Misty).

"But on the other hand, even gaining American independence from Great Britain was no easy effort and had everything against it, yet we perservered."

It surprises me, how you are so ignorant, to the point where you had to state an event that has NOTHING TO WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT!
Why in the world would you compare a fictional anime to something that actually happened?
 <-------------this is you right here.
Why in the world am I wasting my time to someone who can't even make a valid argument!?

otnesse In reply to EmperorPalpitoad [2017-04-03 23:36:26 +0000 UTC]

In case you've forgotten, the anime itself may be fictional, but the writers of it ARE real life human beings, as is our conflict against them in the real world. And I can cite plenty of fictional examples if you want, as I know several (like taking down the Death Star in A New Hope, for example).

And fine, I'll use a more relevant example for what we're talking about: Disney at one point was about to shut down Disney Screencaps due to copyright infringement, even proceeded to prepare a piracy suit against it. People did petitions to get Disney to reconsider. We only got to 5000 signatures before Disney decided to drop the suit and let Disney Screencaps continue. Evidently, the petitions worked, even when it was very likely it wouldn't work.

And let me ask you something. Suppose, for example, May was forced by Norman to return to Petalburg to take over duties as its Gym Leader, even when it was pretty obvious that she wanted to go to Johto for the contests there. Do you really think that would have been a good end for May? Would you do anything to make sure she at the very least gets to pursue the goal she wants? Well, that's what I'm doing with Misty, especially when it was far too clear not just in GCYL, but even in her last appearance (to say little about the Hosos, one of which had her explicitly comparing her situation to Cinderella in a depressed tone), that she did NOT like being a Gym Leader and that her goal was to become Water Pokémon Master. The other characters at least were able to pursue their goals, or even change them of their own accord as Brock did in DP. Maybe if Misty, like Brock after her, explicitly changed her goal of her own free will, and NOT because her sisters pretty much forced her into the situation of becoming Gym Leader by taking a cruise, I wouldn't have minded her departure half as much.

...

Misty most certainly is not a psychopath. She gave a heartfelt apology towards Oddish regarding her nearly capturing it earlier when she didn't even know it wasn't actually a wild Pokémon, and there have been plenty of episodes where she actually HELPED her friends, and other characters as well. Heck, in the fourth episode, when she discovered that Samurai, who, BTW, was armed with a samurai sword that most likely was real, was hunting down Pallet Town trainers, when wondering why he had a problem with trainers from Pallet, she then realized to her horror that Ash was in danger and clearly tried to save Ash from potentially being killed, despite the risks. Bear in mind, BTW, that the very first thought that ran to her head was NOT losing any chance at her bike being fixed, but that Ash himself might be in danger, meaning she WAS trying to save Ash from the bottom of her heart. Psychopaths generally don't care at all for others.

Now, Naru Narusegawa, especially her anime characterization? That most certainly WAS a psychopath.

I apologise for the comment; I had done some Pokémon Anime RPs with someone over the past several months, and Misty is a kind soul. She has her moments of abusiveness, but remove the undertones and you'd have a ship. Heck, PokéShipping would've been canon if Misty hadn't left.

otnesse In reply to BlueEclipse0395 [2017-04-03 20:27:23 +0000 UTC]

It's okay, I just get irritated when people act like Misty's the worst thing ever, even when, quite frankly, if it weren't for her, Ash and Pikachu would be floating bodies in the bay near Kanto on his first day as a trainer, and that's assuming he isn't Gyarados chow, and that's not getting into the fact that I'm actually very loyal to her and want to make sure she returns so that, at the very least, she actually pursues her goal of Water Pokemon Master, a goal that had been stolen from her via GCYL.

I'm not sure I'd call Misty abusive, though. Strict disciplinarian, sure, but I really wouldn't say abusive, since that would imply that she punished Ash for something that wasn't even remotely his fault, while in most cases, she if anything does punish Ash for stuff that actually was his fault (might as well add Brock to that as well). It's definitely nothing like how Naru acted with Keitaru in Love Hina, where most if not all of the times she uses him as a punching bag, it was literally for circumstances beyond his control and was in no way his fault. Or hey, try Bulma's treatment of Goku in the earlier Dragon Ball episodes, especially when unlike Ash most of the time during Kanto, Goku many times when he did some bad things didn't even know better. And she's one of Goku's best friends.

Okay, but maybe instead of blowing her top off at him every time he screwed up in Kanto, maybe she could've carefully explained to him what he did wrong, since the Kanto Saga's bad because of a lack of communication. At least, that's what I see in the Kanto Saga's episodes.

otnesse In reply to BlueEclipse0395 [2017-05-30 23:21:52 +0000 UTC]

I don't know, that slap she gave him when he nearly endangered Caterpite to Pidgeotto and then capturing the latter via Pikachu and THEN proceeding to gloat about how he was the greatest in the third episode seemed pretty well deserved, to be honest. In fact, actually, I'd argue she was being soft there. Had it been me in her position, let's just say he'd be left in the ICU when I'm through with him for endangering his Caterpie like that (and that's no mere rookie mistake: Even a rookie would know from common sense that any Pokémon resembling a caterpillar or worm, when paired off against a Pokémon resembling a bird, is NEVER going to end well. That's just flat out stupidity.). And for the record, she did in fact try to help him out and actually carefully explain how he needs to do things right, like in the fifth episode when about to challenge Brock. She even offered her Pokémon to him (and considering the first Pokémon of hers' that we've seen is a Goldeen, it's safe to say that at the very least she has some Water Types). If anything, Ash blew HER off. And this occurred TWICE. I'm not saying Ash doesn't have his good moments, because he does, like his risking his life to save Pikachu or any other Pokémon that need help, or how he does come up with ingenious strategies from time to time. But there are times that simply carefully explaining things to him won't work, especially not during Kanto where he's, to be frank, as stubborn as a mule.

Okay, you have a point with what happened after Pidgeotto was caught.

I will say, however, that Ash blew Misty off because he wanted to battle Brock with the Pokémon that he caught. It would feel cheap if he won using someone else's Pokémon, wouldn't it?

Also, it wouldn't hurt Misty to be calmer more often. Just yelling at someone or speaking in a condescending manner is not helpful by any means. I'm not saying you don't have somewhat of a point, but you get me, right?

"I will say, however, that Ash blew Misty off because he wanted to battle Brock with the Pokémon that he caught. It would feel cheap if he won using someone else's Pokémon, wouldn't it?"

Personally, even Ash using Pokémon that weren't actually his own would have been far less cheap of a "win" than accepting a badge he literally quit the match on, after essentially exploiting the sprinklers that activated due to Pikachu's uncontrolled discharge of electricity earlier in the match to take Onix out via Pikachu, and even earlier than that hooking Pikachu up to a defunct water-run power plant like a car battery to supercharge him to even bypass Onix's immunity to Electricity (which seemed suspiciously similar to steroid usage) at Flint's advice. Now THAT was cheap right there. Besides, that Pokémon Entrance Exam Ash took had zero problem with people using Pokémon that weren't actually their own, anyways, and if anything required it. I realize it seems more earned for him to win with Pokémon he actually caught, but with all due respect, none of the Pokémon he had on hand were even remotely viable in regards to challenging Brock, and even with Pikachu, he only came close to winning by essentially cheating due to being superconducted earlier.

"Also, it wouldn't hurt Misty to be calmer more often. Just yelling at someone or speaking in a condescending manner is not helpful by any means. I'm not saying you don't have somewhat of a point, but you get me, right?"

Eh, I really didn't see her as being condescending. I saw more of that from Gary or, for a Disney example, Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Yelling, sure, she does that, and I can see your point there.

Misty. Never. Abused. Ash. Or Brock, for that matter. Gave strict discipline? Sure, but a lot of those times, those were given for instances that were in fact his fault, and even in the rare times it wasn't his fault, her thinking it was is actually pretty understandable. Besides, there have been a few times where Brock and even Ash hit her.

You want an example of a female character actually abusing a male character, often with him having absolutely nothing to defend himself with? Try Naru Narusegawa and to some extent the other girls from Love Hina, and especially their treatment of Keitaru Urashima (which in those cases, Keitaru wasn't even at fault during those times, either being there at the wrong place at the wrong time, or literally being forced to see flesh by the occupants and THEN get beat up, or one time just getting caught changing by the girls for once, and THEN getting beat up as a "force of habit" anyway.).
