Description Here's my first colored pencil tutorial.
Because a lot of people are asking me to do a tutorial of this media.

Here's some of my tips for colored pencil.
1. Always keep your pencil sharp.
2. Find some paper to place your hand on when coloring, This can prevent your hand from smudging colors on your artwork.

Link to the original work.

*****
Here's something I forgot to include in my tutorial. : x

1. I used Faber Castel. Colleen. Staedtler student colored pencil.

2. I used Light Brown [wax based] for drawing original lineart.

3 Copy paper and Printer paper are the same.

4. If you don't have white gel pen, You can use white postercolor or gouache instead.

Try mixing your 4-5 colors on your artwork to form new colors as many as possible.

But Why did you have only 4-5 colors? Any colored pencil set must has at least 12 colors.

This is really, REALLY cool! this can help me out for sure.*faves*
Most of the drwings I do use coloured pencils (that and the fact i'm doing a BTEC in Art soon)

I use Derwent water-colour pencils, some pencils from WHSmith (which can be rubbed out, which is good for high-lighting) and a pack of sketching pencils from a 'Pencil Museum' near where I live.

OK, so you used a black colored pencil for the final outlines but before that, what did you use? A normal pencil? And HOW didn't the color of the colored pencil get smudged with the normal pencil!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

emperpep In reply to Musou-Enrai [2010-09-05 15:11:03 +0000 UTC]

I used wax based colored pencil or hard lead pencil such as HB, 2H, 4H

2B, 4B, 6B, EE are not recommended.

Musou-Enrai In reply to emperpep [2010-09-05 17:45:42 +0000 UTC]

EE!? Never heard of that. But 2H sounds pretty light and perfect for sketching when planning to color the sketch! Thanks!

The only problem I find is that I cannot scan it in. I dunno, maybe I pressed too lightly or something, but it refuses to show up when I scan it in. What's your scanner?

Oh wow I've done some vibrant work with color pencil but I didn't even realize it could be this vibrant! So wonderful! Thank you so much, this is a great fast way to get that color fix if you know what I mean (when you crave to color something right away). haha <3

Is there any technique to getting the pencil texture right? I cant colour and get such a smooth texture no matter how much i practice....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KaedeAngel In reply to 3moBunni [2010-07-13 00:03:25 +0000 UTC]

Obviously I'm not the one that made this tutorial but maybe I can help; it's just like anything else you have to build, build, build into the color. My sister works well with color pencils and I struggled with this medium so what she told me was to work in light layers. I hope this helps you figure it out. <3
