Description As promised

Here is my very first watercolour tutorial that you've requested me.

and something I would like to say before you start

Make sure you have some tissue papers while you're working, This will helped you control the water flow, cleaning your brushes, etc.

and don't use only one water container, let's find 2-3 of them

one is for washing your brushes and one for mixed with paints.

If you use only 1 water container, the water will become muddy and give you some horrible dirty effects, ruin your precious work for all time.

And use the best quality brush you can afford.

Here's the link to my 2nd watercolor tutorial.

It is alright to use other color pencil too, but I think I picked blue because it is pretty and light.
and I do erased pencil lines, if I make mistake then I will use eraser to rub it off then redraw.

ah cool. But when you go about painting, do you get rid of the pencil lines s what i meant, or do you just go over with ink? ^^

emperpep In reply to CatherinEclipse [2016-04-20 07:31:02 +0000 UTC]

I didnt erase clean pencil lines, I just painted over them.

and I mostly used ink for final touch up, I rarely used it on outlining process.

how can I make a light skin tone with raw sienna any ideas???
My colour palette is: Cobalt blue, Alizarin crimson hue, Light red, Burnt umber, raw sienna and ultramarine.
I really hope you can help me with my watercolours as you do such a terrific job on your art with water colour paints ^^

emperpep In reply to Mikkie15 [2014-04-14 04:02:04 +0000 UTC]

I may try mixing light red with raw sienna, and dilute them alot with water to make light skin tone, [or just use heavily diluted light red]

if you want pinkish skin try mixing with alizarin crimson

Dont you have any yellow? mixing light red with yellow might be better than mixing with raw sienna.

what brand do you use? cotman?

Mikkie15 In reply to emperpep [2014-04-14 05:01:05 +0000 UTC]

Yes I have a lemon yellow and yes I do use Cotman by Windsor and Newton and with the yellow should lemon yellow be alright to use with the light red?? and thank you for your reply it is really much appreciated.

emperpep In reply to Mikkie15 [2014-04-14 08:19:26 +0000 UTC]

You can try mixing them yourself and see if you like the result or not,

btw my favorite colors for skin [from cotman] are cadmium orange hue, and lemon yellow mixed with permanent rose

I think I need to start making my Christmas wish list LOL, anyways with the skin tone I used lemon yellow and light red and kept diluting it with water, and another thing I discovered that also worked is the raw sienna and light red and I kept diluting it and for a tan skin tone is the light red and lemon yellow and dilute and also figured out how to make my own orange with the lemon yellow and crimson red it turned out pretty good but I had to keep diluting the paints. I did start learning to do pen and wash in 2012 but I didn't understand much 2013 came and Queensland was struck by a devastating flood my house had 19inches through it, I was unable to find my watercolour paints that had been removed the house before the water went through it.

I have a question, should I use watercolor pencils or should I get the ones in tubes?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

emperpep In reply to SwedishPichi [2013-02-25 17:26:53 +0000 UTC]

I don't recommend using watercolor pencil as main medium unless it's for colored pencil picture.
[even the best one like Caran d'ache supracolor still sucks compared to student watercolor for its smoothness, when applying a wash ].

Student/artists' tube watercolor and pan/halfpan watercolor are much better.
